How do I set the conversion settings for Word to ignore outline autonumbering for headings?

I have a user manual in Word that uses outline autonumbering for Heading 1, Heading 2, etc. For example, "1.0 Introduction," "1.1 System Settings" and so on).

I know when setting the conversion settings for FrameMaker, you can select the Ignore Autonumber option in the Conversion Settings dialog to keep only the paragraph content. I don't see anything like this for the Word Conversion Settings. Does this capability exist?

Search not working in Windows 7, works on XP

Hi folks,

We had quite a time getting RoboHelp for Word to work on our new Windows 7 machines. The highest supported combination (of RoboHelp version and Word version) that we were aware of from the postings on this site did not work. Long story.

Anyway, we ended up reinstalling RoboHelp 7 and Word 2007. We have Word 2010 on our machines for other things, but we use 2007 exclusively for RoboHelp. We still save our files as .docs instead of .docxs. (This was a decision made long ago and there was a reason for it, I think, but I don't know it now. :-P I'm just mentioning it on the off chance that it's relevant.)

We thought all our problems were over - the help seemed to be compiling fine - BUT: the Search tab does not work on Windows 7 machines. Comes up completely blank.

The same help file, including the Search tab, will work fine on XP machines.

Any advice?

I have to update an old project that uses WinHelp, so I installed RH X5 on an old XP machine. The original help file always opened in a 2-pane window with the ToC on the left and the default topic on the right. My "updated" help file only opens the ToC/Index/Search screen in a single pane. How do I get the 2-pane window to appear?

My client is looking to change the way they generate help for an internal application. Until now, they've been using RoboHelp for Word X3. I was able to import the existing project into RoboHelp 10 and generate "Primary Layout (WebHelp)." I opened the generated help in IE and FireFox and found the Table of Contents, which generated well.

Most but not all of the individual help pages will not open, however. Those that will not open are in CHM format. FireFox is reporting errors like "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (rmation.chm) isn't associated with any program." Can anyone advise me on how to proceed?

Upgrade from Robohelp for Word 6

Our company is planning to upgrade the RH that we are using due to the issue on Chrome browser not displaying the TOC and search function not working.

We have been using Robohelp for Word in version 6. I know it's outdated but it was working for us and as they say "if ain't broke don't fix it" or some such things. The chrome related issue might have been there for a long time but it just came into out attention recently.

I am trial testing RH 11 and my main issue is the link in TOCs to most of the topics are missing. I've posted 2 discussion but not fixed yet.

Can anyone please advise the best way to tackle this scenario? Do I convert the Word to HTML in RH 6 first before upgrading to RH 11? Is there a list of task to do to prepare my projects in the upgrade to RH 11?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Robohelp for Word 7.0--WinHelp 4.0--Corrupt Word File--how to fix??

Hi All--
I think one of the .doc files in my project is corrupt. When I compile the project in RoboHelp for Word 7, the context sensitive Help (F1) for all the topics in a particular file does not work. However, if I take the project out of RoboHelp and compile it in Help Compiler Workshop--the f1 help works like a charm. Ideally I don't want to ever have to compile this file outside of RoboHelp, but I'm kind of stymied. I can't figure out what is wrong with the file and the error wizard hasn't been exactly helpful. I did however notice that while the Help was compiling that the message 'removing watermarks' came up right after the problematic .rtf was compiled (didn't show up in the error wizard for some reason), but I can't find any watermarks in the file. I inherited this project (the other writer left before I started here) and it's been a while (OK like 10 years) since I last worked with WinHelp (converting to HTMLHelp is not an option) so any suggestions for what I should be looking for would be appreciated. "RoboHelp has stopped working" error

Hi,

I had replied to pgcalc's post with this but since it is a different error I am getting, decided to start a new thread.

I have:

-new Windows 7 machine

-Word 2010

-RoboHelp for Word 10

But when I try to open an .hpj - obviously, these were created in older versions of RoboHelp - I have no idea which version, originally, but the last work on the project was done in RoboHelp 7 or 8 - I get the message "RoboHelp has stopped working."

Here's what I have done so far:

I noticed that the RoboHelp templates were not installed in the default Word templates folder like they usually are. So I copied all the templates from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 10\RoboHELP\WordTemp\en_US\Word11 to C:\Users\[yours truly]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. Still no luck.

Any advice?

RoboHelp 10 For WORD IE10 & IE11 Windows 7 Word 2010 Display Problems

I have applied fixes from Adobe for Blank Topic Panes in IE10 and a blank TOC in IE11. The instructions indicate the fixes should be made in folder RoboHTML which I have done with no solution to the problems. I am wondering if I should apply the Adobe fixes to folder RoboHELP since I am using RoboHelp 10 for Word in a Windows 7 environment. The reason for the question is that the data structure appears to be the same under both folders and the RoboHELP folder does not seem to be present in a RoboHelp 8 installation of HTML without Word.

This may be a dumb question but is there an upgrade to RH 9 for Word?

We bought RH for windows in 2012. It came with the HTML version 9 and Robo Help for Word 8...which must have been upgraded in the background to RH 9 for Word, because that is what is now showing in "About RoboHelp" and that is not what was originally showing. Is there a RH for Word 10? We have two projects that will not convert nicely to HTML, lost a ton of external links, so for those I have to stick to RH for Word. If there is a 10 we might be interested in getting so I can use Word 10.

I have a Help project created in RoboHelp for Word 8. I recently upgraded from Word 2007 to Word 2010 and discovered that RH8 for Word won't work with Word 2010. So I purchased RoboHelp 10 and have installed RoboHelp for Word from it. Alas, RH for Word STILL won't work with Word 2010. When I try to open my project, I get this message:

Before I bought RH10, I live-chatted with an Adobe sales person who assured me it was compatible with Word 2010.

BTW, I tried to roll back to Word 2007, but I was getting weird behavior running Word, so I have reinstalled Word 2010 and want to stay there.

Any ideas?

I am just wondering because I've been told it's a Word 7 issue and I have not seen anything in the forum on this. I know there are not a lot of us still using RH for Word, but there are enough of us that someone else must have come accross this issue.

I know, why are we using RH Word...Non-issue as I can't change at this time.

Here is my problem. I can not browse from RH to a HTM document. It's not that I can't put a link in the project, I can but I have to do it manually. I can link if I do the entire path manually, like find an old link and manipilate it. I think either I'm missing a file in either RH or Word...or some security setting is preventing me from browsing to the final location. I am fine until I get there and then once I click for the link to attach Word shuts down and stops working.

I absolutely have no issues with this on XP and 2003. Everything else works fine with 2007 Word and Windows 7..just the browsing issue. The funny thing is that at one point my partner states the browse was working at one time..then they upgraded her Word to 2010...which did not play nice with RH and then they uninstalled 2010 and reinstalled 2007....but the browse won't work now.

Like I said thinking missing file issue, security issue, or maybe some 2010 stuff has been left behind that is causing the problem.

Also can't stay on XP and 2003 word as XP is being retired and they won't let me keep 2003 Word when I upgade to Window 7.

Anyhelp, ideas, thoughts, fixes would be appreciated

I feel a bit silly even asking this, but I'm not a coder and don't have the technical knowledge to know for sure that it's a silly question.

Background: We are upgrading to Windows 7 from XP in the near future. We will be using RoboHelp 10 and Word 2010 - at least that's the plan ...

For our department's major product, since it's big and has been around a long time, we are still stuck using RoboHelp for Word to generate WinHelp. We then use the RHelp for Word source to generate WebHelp, since some modules of the product require WinHelp, some require HTML pages, and much of the source material is needed in both outputs. And yes, I did read someone's post likening this process to drinking coffee while running a sprint - believe me, if I had any choice about this I wouldn't be doing it. If RoboHelp has added the capability to generate WinHelp from RoboHelp HTML, let me know .

Anyway, because of previous weird experiences after upgrades, I am being asked to find out: Has anyone used RoboHelp for Word to generate help output - .hlp or .chm or HTML pages - on a Windows 7 machine and tested it on a Windows XP machine? If so, were any problems observed?

Assuming we can still creak along with RoboHelp 10 to generate the same antiquated output ... which we can, right?? ... my gut tells me that a file is a file and I can't see why an .hlp file or web-based help files that run on Windows 7 wouldn't run on XP. But again, I don't have the technical knowledge to say this for certain.

Why does RoboHelp 9.0.023 insert unwanted double quotes in the chm file?

RoboHelp for Word inserts double quotes at the end of a topic that has conditional text, I do not see the quotes in the Word document, but the quotes are present in the CHM file.

Using Windows 7, RoboHelp v9.0.023 and Microsoft Office Word 2007.

I'm using Robohelp 9 with Windows 7, office 2007 and trying to generate printed documentation. I've adjusted security in MS Word and go through the setup in single source options in robohelp but when it gets to the point of trying to generate printed output it seems to get stuck on Processing documents. I try to cancel out but nothing happens and am forced to control quit.

Am I missing some kind of configuration options?

SOFTWARE VERSIONS: WIN 7, RoboHelp 8, WORD 2007

ISSUE: Generating TOC chapters from Robohelp 8 to MS WORD 2007, WORD document map levels (Headings) are incorrect or navigation trees are not consistent. RoboHelp 8->SSL configured and mapped, using a WORD template .dot.

SOLUTION GUIDANCE:

The PDF is generated from the word document that, in turn, is created from the RoboHelp 8 project. The PDF generation is configured to use heading styles to create bookmarks.

Note: Word styles are mapped to styles defined in the RoboHelp templates however; the resulting document/PDF will generate incorrect or inconsistent bookmarks.

PROBLEM ONSET: Unable to determine when this first occurred, looked at older generated "PDF's" hence, there were no bookmarks; probably due to not having the option in WORD converting/publishing into Adobe 'heading option' checked off.

DESCRIPTION: In the Adobe Reader, click on the View->Navigation Panel->Bookmarks (NOTE: this can also be seen in WORD 2007 'Document Map' left pane), the navigation trees are not consistent.

Expected result: The bookmark structure follows the structure of the document where the first level are chapters, second level of the navigation tree are topics, etc.

Actual result: The bookmark structure is not consistent and shows things like "Scenario 1", "Figure 1" on the same level as chapter headings.

ATTEMPTS TO RECTIFY PROBLEM:

This is NOT a problem if I generate a single chapter from RoboHelp TOC 'Chapter Layout'.
I also tried all the chapters separately and there were no problems.
When I generate all 24 chapters from my TOC 'Chapter Layout' there are issues (e.g., single word like "Step / Action" text, nubered and bullited text become headings).

Broken bookmark cross references in Printed Documentation

Hi,

I'am using RH 10 to generate a printed documentation output. What i notice is that the book marked cross references are broken in the Printed Documentation output. Other cross references are linking fine, but, the bookmarked cross references do not link to their destination.

I generated a chm file for the project and the bookmarked cross references appear fine there. Is there anything that could be tried to rectify this problem.

Please note that i'am using HTML files as the source files to convert to a Word output.

Discrepancy between Book Content (TOC) between RoboHelp Explorer & CNT/HLP Generated

I've got an old WinHelp4 project that has been neglected for years and now we are trying to bring it current.

I've deleted the old TOC it had and created a new one with just a couple of entries to start with (just to make sure everything gets put together ok). I've run into an odd thing. After generating the help files, if I click on the button to "Review Primary Layout" or generate the help file and click on "View Result" I get the old version of the TOC. That is, 10 books in the Contents Tab window. If I double click in Windows Explorer on the actual generated .hlp file I get the correct Contents.

It appears to me that RoboHelp is "remembering" something that deleting and recreating the TOC did not reset. I went trough all of the files that I saw for the RH project but didn't see anything that had the old book names in them.

I'm using RH for Word 10.0 on Win7 Pro (64-bit).

This is w WinHelp4 project. The plan is to move to HTML. But can't do it now.

Where is this information coming from?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Robohelp menu banner not working

Hello RH for Word stalwarts!

This is for RoboHelp 9 and 10, Generating WinHelp 2000, Word 2007

The RH banner menu at the top of the screen has stopped working as of a couple of weeks back

Any item selected from here does nothing, then when the cursor is put back on the Word, Word crashes

That means I have to insert graphics, mid-topics and other useful stuff manually

That's quite annoying so if there any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them

I just upgraded to RoboHelp 8 for Word (Office 2007, XP Pro) and continue to have this problem after compiling a project (Microsoft HTML) and clicking on view. One suggestion was to change the path closer to the root directory. I changed the output path the C:\ (can't get any closer than that!) and that didn't help. I searched the forum for a definitive fix but haven't found one yet. The file opens fine using explorer but it's obviously a pain-in-the-butt to have to always do that. Thanks.

I know this is all a day late and a follar short but for those folks that still use Robohelp for Word:

If your company is going to Windows 7, X5 will not work. You need to bump it up to at least RH8.

Even after you upgrade, if you use the tripane (winhelp_2000) view in RH for Word, it will not work on Windows 7 even with the microsoft patch. With the patch it will look like an older version of RH in winhelp_4. At least I have not been able to get it to display.

What will work is if you compile it in Webhelp. You will loose some links. I know I should be moving to Robhelp Html and I tried, but when I did that I got a lot of garbage at the top of all my topics, I lost all my external links and I would have to retrain my partner...

Now about links. My only complaint about Robohelp for Word was it's limited external linking capacity. If you use RH for Word you know you can only brouse to the net or to an htm or html document. It doesn't mean you can't link to a PDF or an excel spread sheet. You just can't brouse to it. You can manually enter the path. I just changed 740+ htm links to pdf links (pdf in same file as htm and the names were the same except for extension) and it worked. If you intend to try this back up.

Anyway, if this helps anyone great..if not thanks for letting me babble. I like my Robohelp for Word in Webhelp format.

I recently upgraded from MS 2003 to MS 2013 (along with moving to Win 7) and found RH9 does not play well, so considering installing MS 2010 instead. Seems there have been issues with MS 2010 also. So, what works with RH9?

In Robohelp 9 for word, we are not able to compile the html files from .hpj file if the size exceeds 10 KBs. This is while migrating a winhelp project to .hpj file. Could you please let me know the settings for compiling the html files from an .hpj file.

Does anyone know how to import or retain the properties of table borders/cells of a Compiled HTML Help Module that was generated in RoboHelp 7 into RoboHelp 9? I'm using RoboHelp 9 for my work and have to generate an HTML Help using RoboHelp 9. But the previous Help was generated in RoboHelp 7. When I have to generate the new Help in RoboHelp 9, this RoboHelp doesn't have the same properties of the table borders of the previous Help. Please help.

I'm a consultant and my client's IT department is planning to upgrade to Windows 7. Does anyone know if X5 will work with Windows 7?

Upgrade from Robohelp 5x

Hello,

I have a an old and big (about 300 topics) Robohelp for Word project, which was used to create Winhelp files with Robohelp version 5x.

Now I want to upgrade to Robohelp 10 and create Winhelp aswell as Html helpfiles. Is there any chance I can use the old project with the new version?

I already tried to open it with the new version of Robohelp for Word but the generated helpfiles were corrupt. I also tried to import the Word file and the Winhelp file but it didnt work either.

And is it possible to use any of these files to create a new Html project with Robohelp 10?

I'm thankful for any tips.

WinHelp, Windows 8 and Ultrabook - macros not working

Our products are generated for WinHelp 2000 using RH9 for Word

The user has symptoms typical of macros not working. This has normally been caused by the user not properly doing the step described in the Knowledgebase article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607 regarding " How to enable macros on a single computer after you install the WinHlp32.exe"

I have updated a machine to Windows 8, performed the Knowledgebase article items and our products work fine. I have also verified that the user's machine has the correct registry settings, so it looks like Windows 8 is not the culprit. That leaves the Ultrabook

This combination of Windows 8 and Ultrabook is quite new and I am hoping someone using WinHelp 2000 has already run into it.

Please let me know if so.

Hi,

I have installed RoboHelp trial in Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2010. But Office 2010 file format is not recognised in RoboHelp. Word 2010 is not listed under options. How to configure RoboHelp such that Word 2010 files are recognised by RH.

RoboHelp 10 generates Webhelp that does not display well in Google Chrome

We use RoboHelp 10 and create WebHelp which we post on a webserver. The TOC Index, Search / navigation panes do not display any content. If we generate a version with the "Pure HTML" option instead of the "DHTML" option the navigation panes do show the content, but we would rather not take this route because other functions still don't work properly.

It happens regardless of the contents of the helpfile.

No relevant JavaScript errors show in the console.

We found various tricks that claim to solve this issue but at least for RoboHelp 10 they don't work.

Very Slow PDF to Word Conversion - Help!

I have a few documents that need to be converted from PDF to Word. I have a PC operating on Windows 2010. I have installed updates but converting process is still very slow. Particularly while " Processing file for Exporting". Please help me resolve this issue. I have a deadline I am trying to meet.

Index Problem, urgent!

I have a question about the Index page number of the word document generated from its corresponding robohelp.

Eg, the word XXX listed in robohelp index has three topics displayed below which indicate 3 topics have been linked to this index keyword (and 3 page numbers should be displayed in its word document? ). But when I generate the word document and look at the index, I found only one page number showed after the index keyword XXX. So what about the other two topics? Shoudn't there be three page numbers as well? I am puzzled

I'm using RH10. I would like to have RH create TOC books based upon my Word Heading 1, and TOC topics within those books based upon my Style 2. Is there a way to do that?

Losing images when link word doc to RH8

Hello,

I've inherited formated word files with images from a coworker. When I link or import files to RH images get lost.

When create new word doc (with default settings) and images with inline or text wrap formats, then import this doc to RH, images are imported.

How do I link formated document so that images are imported (linked) as well?

mk:@MSITStore cannot open file from within RoboHelp

Have recently upgraded to RoboHelp 8 and now see the much discussed "Cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore:<path>" error but only when trying to view .chm files from RoboHelp for Word, by clicking "View Primary Layout". Weirdly enough, some projects display the .chm correctly when clicking "View Result" right after generating the help file, some projects do not. Viewing .chm directly from output location is always fine. For very small projects, the "View Primary Layout" button seems to work. For very large projects, the error message always occurs. I've un-registered and re-registered hhctrl.ocx as well as downloaded, replaced and registered the previous ocx version (4.73.8412.0) as well as re-registered itss.dll The OS is Windows XP Professional with IE 7. Suggestions please? Thanks!

Warning error HC3033

Using Trial version of RH 10, from RH 8.0.0.0203

Does anyone know how to correct this warning error? Or have they seen this before and can instruct me on how to clean it up.

"Warning - HC3033 - The Topic ID "A-A>>A(upside down ?)#define" contains invalid characters. The #, =, >,@, !, or \A (the degree symbol)haracters cannot be used ina WinHelp version 4.0 source file.

I am compiling as WinHelp 2000.
