Bug in the search database of Javahelp

Hi all,

in this project I am importing from Framemaker and generating Javahelp output. The Javahelp does not work when there are non-ASCII characters in the topic filenames (such as accents or umlauts). Therefore I have to adjust the file naming in the imort settings to "<$filename_no_ext>-<n>". As a result I get topics with numbered filenames and all seems well.

BUT with this setting the Javahelp displays the totally cryptic filenames of the topics as search results. Why does Robohelp not create a search database with the topic titles as search results?

How do you handle Javahelp projects for non-english languages?

Hi all,

I have benn previously using the Open Toolkit to generate Javahelp from DITA content. This worked fine but process changes force me to try out Robohelp.

The main problem is that Robohelp creates awfully structured HTML output and relies on CSS to streighten the formatting. Particularly with lists this does not work in Javahelp. For example, if you have a list in 2nd order (within another lists) then Robohelp creates two flat lists and simply increases the margins of what is intended to be the list bullets in 2nd order.

It seems that any margin-left attributes do not work in Javahelp. Does anybody have experiences with getting the Robohelp output to work in the Javahelp viewer?

Hello all,

Does anyone here generate Javahelp 1.1.3? I'm quite familiar with creating Webhelp and epub using Robohelp. However, we have some javahelp projects i need to upgrade and the style mapping just seems random when displayed in the Javahelp viewer (ie, mix of serif and sans serif fonts, even though my CSS has only sans serif fonts, fonts really tiny, etc).

Webworks created Javahelp beautifully but it would be good to use one product for our conversions.

Any tips on how to get my stylesheet to work for producing Javahelp?

Broken Links in IE 8 Help!

Output file is SSL and there are no broken links, however when putting it on the web all the hyperlinks are broken. It's working fine in Firefox! Please help!! Very new/beginner user here.

Hi!

I'm trying to output my Help system into an eBook format using RH v10, but I keep getting the error message, "Failed to generate eBook (eBook). See compilation message for more details."

I check the Output View, and all that is listed is:

"Generating EPUB 3 output...

EPUB 3 output generation failed.

Internal error encountered, Failed to generate eBook."

This message tells me nothing. So what gives? Do I have too many topics? Too many conditional tags? Not enough rain in the area? Too much pressure on the keyboard keys?

Help, please?

Cannot view Oracle Help output in rh10

I am using RoboHelp HTML on Windows 7. I am able to generate Oracle Help output, but I when I click on "View Result",

the following window pops up:

I have the 1.6 and 1.7 JDK and JRE's installed as well as the Oracle Help JDK.

Oracle Help search feature doesn't work with RoboHelp generated output

I am using RoboHelp HTML, Version 10 on Windows 7. I am able to generate Oracle Help output and integrate it with my Java application. When I do this, the Content and Index tabs work fine, but the Search feature does not. Regardless of what search term I try, I get no search results. In generating the Oracle Help output, I used the default options throughout.

Any suggestions as to what is causing this problem?

The error is not fatal and RoboHelp do generate the JavaHelp file. The JavaHelps displays TOC, Index, and the project pages as expected, but when I try using the "Search" tab in the generated JavaHelp, it does not work.

If I generate a Microsoft HTML Help or WebHelp, the "Search" tab works fine.

My project is a former RoboHelp 9.1 project converted to RoboHelp 10. It was working fine on Windows XP Pro Us (32 bits) + RH 9.1, I'm running now RH 10 on Windows 8 Pro French 64 bits.

Problems with RoboHelp 8 HTM and JavaHelp

Hello,

I was working with RoboHelp 7 and created help. Now I import my files in RoboHelp 8 and have some problems:

1. In design view files look just fine, but when I generate javaHelp i have some unwanted characters. At the begining of all pages and after all images in page I have ">" symbol. What should I do to lose this unwanted characters.

Modifying DocBook XML Output?

Howdy.,

I know very little about XML, so my questions may be a bit bewildering as my old friend Davy Crockett used to say.

I am wondering how to modify what Single Source XML spits out. As far as I understand at this point, it uses DocBook (not sure of version).

Looking for it to generate something like this:

ePub output - bulleted lists mangled RH9

I was pleasantly surprised when doing an investigation in to outputting to ePub format, that everything seemed to be transformed quite nicely, even my tables, which according to what I read don't get handled too well by the ePub output.

But (there's always a but!), as seems invevitable, bulleted lists don't work, with the bullet appearing in the text, as below.

All lists in my project are affected. As this is a linked FrameMaker project which normally outputs to WebHelp, is there anything I can to to change this?

I note that the script requires 7-zip to be installed. If I have another zip tool (WinZip or Izarc) can that be used instead, or does it have to be 7-zip?

Hi - I'm new to this forum and a new RoboHelp 8 user...I have to figure things out for myself since my employer is not offering to provide funds for training.

I purchased RoboHelp 8 in January of this year for the purpose of creating a Help System which will contain Reference Manuals (Word Format) that are associated with my company's Java Software package. Using RoboHelp 8 for Word, I created a Java Project, imported 18 of my Reference Manuals, and Batch Generated with success (Output - Uncompressed JavaHelp with source output files). I need the output to be "Compressed JavaHelp" in order to create a .JAR file which will ultimately be delivered to the Software Development team to be incorporated into the Java code. When I choose the "Compressed JavaHelp" or "Compressed JavaHelp with source files", I receive the following:

Sun Java 2 SDK or later is required to compress the JavaHelp output. Please install the latest Java SDK or choose "Uncompressed JavaHelp" as your output option. This JavaHelp Wizard dialog box also contains an option to "Locate Sun Java SDK Install Folder" button.

I installed the following software packages in the in the C:\Program Files\Java directory on my Windows XP machine:

jdk1.6.0_20 (Latest from Sun) (SDK is now JDK)

jh2.0

jre6

After installation and rebooting machine, I repeated the steps outlined above and I still received the same error message. This time, I chose the "Locate Sun Java 2 SDK Install folder" and navigated to to the install folder. I received the following message:

"Java Software Development Kit (Java SDK) is not installed in the folder". after selecting OK, the next message is "If you want to output compressed JavaHelp, the output file path can not contain "!".

When I attempt to view the JavaHelp (Primary Layout) from the Single Source Layouts node, I receive the same "Java 2 SDK and JavaHelp are required...message

So, I gave up on this project for 3 months and now I'm receiving a deadline to have the project completed ASAP.

I spent 1/2 yesterday on the phone with Adobe Support and after uninstalling and reinstalling JDK, JH, and JRE several times, the issue is being escalted to Tier 2.

Has anyone on this forum encountered this problem? Any information would be very much appreciated!

I just published this site for a friend of mine:

www.paintingbydarlene.com and it looks fine in all browers on my laptop as well as my iPhone, but when my friend looks at it on his computer, the aligning is

off. When I look at it in my computer at work, the aligning is off as well. I assume it's because of the bigger screens, but how do I fix this issue so that everything shows up in the grey box in all browers, regardless of the screen size? I added a "center" tag at the top of the coding and "/center" at the bottom, but obviously that didn't work. Any suggestions?

Support for Oracle Help for Java 5

When will RoboHelp HTML 8 support Oracle Help for Java 5?

Oracle Help for Java V5 has been out since July 2009 and is currently the only version of Oracle Help for Java (OHJ) that is available from the Oracle web site. According to the RH8 documentation, RoboHelp only supports Oracle Help through V4.1. When I try and build an Oracle Help helpset from RH8 HTML and ask for Full Text Search, RH asks for a pointer to the OHJ installation. When I browse to the directory containing OHJ 5, it accepts the directory and beeps. No full text search database is built. If I ask to view the results, RH beeps once, then does nothing. No error message. No Oracle Help view. Although I can view the resulting helpset, full text search is not working.

If RoboHelp is no longer capable of building embedded Java Help, I don't think I need it anymore. Adobe AIR is not an option as it is not supported on Solaris.

Bullets/styles in Robohelp 8

We just upgraded to Robohelp 8. We use a style sheet that we created. Some of the styles have bullets or numbering a,b,c, and so on. Now that we are on Robohelp 8, it is replacing these bullets and letters with regular numbers. So a topic that previously was 1,2,3,a,b,c,4 is now 1,2,3,4,5,6,4

We found that we can go into every topic that is numbered with these bullets or letters and select the option Bullet Positioned within Paragraph in Bullets and Numbering. This fixes the problem but we'll have to go thru every single topic we have to find them. We have over 14,000 topics in one of our help files so this is not an option.

There's more....when looking at the topic in Design mode, the bullets appear as we styled them. You can only find these problems in the view mode where you've click on the eyeglasses to view or the build output.

Can someone help me here? I'm ready to go back to Robohelp 6. This sucks.

RoboHelp 8 and Oracle help

We started building Oracle help in Robohelp about 2 years ago. The developers originally wanted us to go with Sun but after researching, I got them to allow us to go with Oracle instead. Personally, I really dislike the way it looks. Our styles don't translate well and the formatting is all off, etc.

So my question, have there been any changes in the Oracle help or translation from Robohelp in the last 2 years?

I want to make a *.exe file. I have compiled the software in Flash help pro. I tried converting them into exe with compilers but they have one problem the robohelp search doesnt work once compiled. So is there any way to compile into an exe file or is there some way to get the search to work ? Please help

Indented sentences get a default style of "none"

None of my fonts are underlined in the CSS file, but underlining appears rather randomly in some of the Paragraph Heading fonts in the generated output.

Help on creating an index

I am trying to create an index with keywords and subkeywords using FlashHelpPro as my Primary Layout.

Issue #1

When I click on a keyword in the generated index, the Topic in which the keyword resides is displayed.

I was hoping that clicking on a keyword would jump to the keyword within the topic - am I doing something wrong?

Issue #2

When I click on a subkeyword, the location is not recognized, and the first topic is displayed by default.

I appreciate any help I can get.

Back and Forward Buttons disabled

bullets not appearing correctly in FireFox

In other words, the bullet is far separated from the text, and it indents too far to the left - past the text that it comes after.

Is there something wrong with my style, or is RH broken in FireFox?

I am using RH8 to publish a policy manual. Half the manual is published externally the other internally. To do this we used conditional tags. Recently we noticed that all the pdf within these sections could be googled. I tried applying the tag directly to the link in the section but this didn't work. Any suggestion on how I can keep this baggage files from showing up on the public domain?

Cannot install JavaHelp therefore cannot view JavaHelp

RoboHelp HTML Version 8

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate on a 64-bit operating system on a new HP HDX Premium Series machine.

When I generate JavaHelp, the files are generated correctly, however, when I click on the "Click View Result to view: aodb.hs", a dialog box is displayed:

JavaHelp- Requirement

JavaHelp 2.0 or later is required to view output correctly. Please install the latest JavaHelp or select "View Without Javahelp 2.0"

If I click "View Without JavaHelp 2.0", it displays message saying "JavaHelp 1.0 or later is required to view JavaHelp output. Please install the latest JavaHelp and locate the install folder." If I then click, "Locate JavaHelp Install Folder", it opens the "Browse For Folder" window. I can find the Java folder, but no "javahelp" file.

If I click "Locate javahelp Install Folder", it opens the "Browse For Folder" windoe and I cannot find "Javahelp". If I then click OK, a window opens with a title of "HtmSingleSourceJavaHelp" and the messages says: "JavaHelp 2.0 is not installed in the folder: C:\Users|Diane."

I did a search on my computer and it does not find any file called javahelp.

What file should I be looking for?

Is the Javahelp file the RoboHelp viewer is looking for part of the Java install that I have downloaded and installed or is there something separate that i need to download from Sun to install?

RH5 JavaHelp Remote URL to Web Form

I was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue.

In order to get around the JavaHelp limitations with forms, we have been linking via a remote URL to a web form (created in FrontPage) to collect feedback through email. The form is no longer working in JavaHelp. The page loads in the JavaHelp window, but it never goes anywhere. When you click submit, the form resets and nothing is received in email. The form works fine when linked on the web or in WebHelp.

I've tried a removing the link and reinserting, changing the recipient, the confirmation page, but no luck. Any suggestions? Other than switching to something other than JavaHelp -- 'fraid I've got no control over that decision

RH8 DocBook XML > run script > font issues in html

Can you help with these two font problems? We're using RH8 to generate DocBook XML and a script that then generates WebHelp from DocBook. The font problems are in the resulting html.

Background - dev and tech pubs:

1. For Linux open source, the development team wants DocBook XML for their small interim deliverables (to edit & publish WebHelp themselves).

2. For major releases, tech pubs imports the updated xml files into RH8 and publishes the WebHelp.

Issues: Using RH8 to generate DocBook XML works fine, except for two font issues in the resulting html:

* no bold (DocBook doesn't automatically support bold, you have to modify the stylesheets)

* incorrect line breaks in the numbered lists

Guessing at the Fix: We think the fix is to edit the RH8 handler files. Because DocBook doesn't support bold, we understand that you must add XSL tags to the stylesheets. For bolding, I found a set of attributes. Copying them into the handler stylesheets would mean figuring out how to match the attributes with the css styles, and it would take some time, as none of us are skilled at XML. I did not find attributes to fix incorrect line breaks.

Hoping for a magic bullet: Has someone experienced and fixed these problems? Perhaps an external editor with an interface?

Not too many posts appear here as the use of these forms of help is limited. The best I can do here is point to the write-up of my own experience. Oracle Help in RH8, not working as it did before

We're building Oracle Help in Robohelp & recently upgraded to RH8. When I delivered the files to our dev team, the files won't work. This is what our dev person wrote to me:

When I try to load the Oracle Help I get the following error message:

oracle.help.library.helpset.HelpSetParseException: Unknown error when parsing hs file: No toplevel tag in helpset file

I looked at the helpset file and didn’t see anything different except the first line was changed

from: <?xml version='1.0' ?>

to: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>

I have no idea what this means or what I'm supposed to do. Obviously something changed in RH8 that affects the build but I have no idea what our dev team is supposed to do to make it work. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I have the following problem. I have been using RoboHelp for HTML now for a while to generate JavaHelp projects.

Since I am generating a context-sensitive help and my customer is only able to implement a help project based on JavaHelp 1.1.3, I cannot use JavaHelp 2.0, though there is a whole series of restrictions with JavaHelp 1.1.3.

With RoboHelp v7, everything worked fine when creating a JavaHelp 1.1.3 project. With RoboHelp v8, however, the TOC is missing in the JavaHelp. It is not displayed. Usually, I am working on my main PC under Windows XP.

I tried to generate a JavaHelp 1.1.3 version with RH 8 under Vista (which I have on my notebook), and the TOC was displayed. The project source is a Web Help project.

Is this a known bug or might there be something else with the Java installation that I should consider? As far as I know, there was a similar issue with TOCs and JavaHelp 1.1.3. under RoboHelp X5 long time ago.

I appreciate any answer that might help fixing this problem.

Need to Remove Auto-generated Batch File

I inherited a RoboHelp 7 project. When I generate the primary layout of this project, it automatically generates a folder called !SSL! with another folder inside it called franksTest. Needless to say, it doesn't look v. professional to have a folder called franksTest as part of the final project that goes with the software product. I have no use for either of these folders, but I don't know how to permanently remove them, particularly franksTest, from the generated project.

Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks!

Problem in viewing a converted JavaHelp (jar) file (created using RH2002 to RoboHelp X5)

Hi,

I have a javahelp project (compressed javahelp) created using RoboHelp 2002. The output files are jar files.

The source files are .mpj. When I view the existing jar files without converting the project to .xpj I am able to view the jar files.

However, this project needs to be upgraded to RHx5. During conversion(.mpj to .xpj) everything seems to be working fine and the javahelp files are generated. But when I try to view the jar files nothing is diplayed.

I get the following error. Please see below.

Has anybody come across anything similar? Is there anything I need to take care of before I upgrade to .xpj? I cannot locate the glo.xml file in RH.

Combining Single Source Layouts

I have a couple of questions.

First, can you build single-source layouts without using any "NOT" expressions? As in, just build SingleSourceA with ConBuildA variables?

Second, is there any way to combine multiple builds without having to define each layout? So that, if I send in User A who I want to see ConBuildA and ConBuildB variables, do I have to define layout SingleSourceAB, or can I somehow combine SingleSourceA and SingleSourceB?

The reason I ask is that I'm developing help for a system where there are 15 different roles that users can have, which define what pages they can see and what they can see on the pages. The users can have any number of different roles. I would really like to be able to build a help system for them in context, so that if they have Roles 1-5, they only see the help documentation applicable for those roles.

RoboHelp to PowerPoint

Can anyone suggest a way to re-use selected RoboHelp topics in a Powerpoint presentation? So far I've tried producing some Word output and sending it to PowerPoint but this feature seems to be intended more for outlining so I can get headings and text into slides but no graphics.

I want to export my help file to MS Word for editing/changing into another language and then re-importing back into the source to generate the help (.chm) file. Can this be done?

I have tried doing a single source layout to word, but some topics seem to be missing. Why is that?

Output to PDF does not retain links

I have 4 Webhelp projects that output to PDF files. RH7 is supposed to retain hyperlinks in the PDF file and it did on the the first volume I converted and compiled. But the second volume is not retaining the links even though I have "Add links to PDF" and "Retain hyperlinks" checked in the Print Documentation panel checked. Once the PDF file is generated none of the links that don't actually give the path work. In the first project all the links between topics work fine...in this one they don't. Both projects are similar age, created in RH5. This is straight text (Compliance manuals) with nothing strange. The links were all created with drag/drop.

What am I missing? The first project 'just did it!". This one "just doesn't!!". Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Hi,

We have been using RoboHelp to convert some of our hardcopy user documentation to WebHelp, as our client applications run on various OSs, on the Web. We will also be moving toward using strcutured FrameMaker for all of our product documentation and we will be focusing on single-sourcing methods (XML). (We are currently using Word for hardcopy documentation. Ugh.)

I have found a lot of material online about using individual products (e.g., RoboHelp, Frame) for single sourcing, but I'm looking for some formal courses that will provide information about single source using documents generated in structured Frame, in XML format, and also how RoboHelp's XML conversion works. Can we use only one product for all single-sourcing (XML) or do we need multiple products (Frame and RoboHelp)? Can anyone recommend either a person or training facility in San Diego, CA, that can provide us with some guidelines for planning for and implementing XML?

I've looked at the Adobe-provided training centers, but they don't appear to offer what we need:

Generating Web Help and missing RH help

I have been using RoboHelp for many years now and have had problems generating help before. We just installed Windows 2007 on our laptops a couple weeks' ago and I'm wondering if this might be part of the issue. I am able to generate and view MS HTML help fine, but am unable to generate and run Web Help for the same system. I checked the project settings and Web Help is the primary view.

Also, along w/ this, my RoboHelp help is not working. It worked fine up until I generated and ran HTML and Web help.

Has ANYone had any of these problems? Thanks!
