Captivate 8 problem exporting SCORM package into Moodle

Trying to upload my zip file of a Captivate 8 Video & Quiz SCORM package into Moodle, but it won't upload. After some checking, Moodle says they think it is a 'corrupted SCORM' file. Would appreciate your assistance; been working on this for several days. Thanks.

CP 8 Unknown Error on reporting setting Inernal Server

I have the quiz preferences set to Internal Server. I have PHP installed and running on my web server running IIS 6. The CP index.html file is on the root directory. When the results page of the quiz appears a popup box displays asking for Student Name and Student Email ID. Once this information is entered the popup box comes back with the text "Unknown Error" displayed and an OK button. The data is written to the server but I don't want this error message to appear.

Does anyone know how to prevent this error? Or even better I would like to code my own script where when the student clicks the submit button the information is posted without any intervention from the users (no popup).

I have been scouring the web only to see that alot of other people don't like the popup window that Adobe has developed but have yet to find how anyone has written their own script to do the posting.

Any advise or suggestions are greatly appricated.

I didn't think you could change this attribute in previous versions of Captivate... but I was optimistic for v8. Anyone know where this may be hiding? Or workarounds?

Is it possible to indicate which questions a user answered/correctly incorrectly once the quiz has finished?

I have been asked to display the individual question results of a quiz on a separate slide once the quiz has been completed (in addition to displaying the usual results page).

I will need to list the numbers 1 to 10 in this case, with a tick or cross to indicate which questions were answered correctly/incorrectly. Is this possible in Captivate 8?

Internal server reporting, why the generation of the result xmls stops after a while?

Hello,

I installed a wamp server on my computer and did all the steps for the internal server reporting to take place.

And it worked brilliantly.

But then it stopped working after 4 or 5 attempts. Meaning, the xml files in the course folder wouldn't get created.

I built another test learning object and it worked again.. and then it stopped working again.

I'm really confused about what prevents the xml files from being generated by the LO. Looked up inside the CPM.JS but it's a bit too messy for me.

Has anyone got this problem, and solved it?

2 things I do which might have an impact on the result:

- I fill in the value of cpQuizInfoStudentID and cpQuizInfoStudentName before the final form, either from inside the LO itself or via the url (http://localhost/myLOfolder/index.html?cpQuizInfoStudentID=tatata&cpQuizInfoStudentName=ta tata)

But as I said before it did work for some time in both cases.

- I open the LOs with several different browsers and OS (my comp is windows but I connect mobile devices to the server, running on android, and I use chrome)

The xml file did get generate when the LO was open on the tablet once, but stopped working soon after.

Would be great to hear from people who have got some experience with this internal server reporting or from the adobe staff!

I am looking to publish courses that will report results to both the LMS (Halogen) & an internal server Quiz Results Analyzer. Is there any way to accomplish this task? Im open to publish formats, but would relaly love to make this happen.

Basically I am looking to create a course/quiz that requires us to be able to view the responses given but at the same time want the scores/completion reported to LMS to monitor certifications.

I have a Captivate quiz that is 800X600 and have published it with Scalable HTML Content selected.

If I have the window maximized greater than the original 800X600, only parts of the screen will allow me to advance when I want to continue. Each quiz slide in the project has a different area that you can click. Each time I visit the same quiz slide on another attempt, the area I can click to advance is different than the last time I attempted that question.

It's almost like the 800X600 clickable area is randomly spread around the newer, larger sized window.

Return to quiz not working

I'm having trouble with the return to quiz function in Captivate 7. I have tried a number of solutions to work around this but none seem to be working. I have a project with a series of course slides followed by a quiz. I have set some of the quiz slides to 'jump to' relevant course slides on failure and set the next button on those course slides to return to the quiz. I seem to be running into two issues:

when playing through the course slides for the first or subsequent times the return to quiz button seems to become stuck (on most occasions, not consistently). It does not progress to the next slide and the playhead indicates that the project has stopped playing. Hitting play on the playhead progresses the slide but it is a frustrating experience.
when taking the quiz, the remedial learning seems to work well the first time the quiz is taken but not once ‘retake quiz’ is selected. On retaking the quiz, the correct slide is jumped to on failure but instead of the return to quiz button sending the user back to the quiz, the button seems to function like a ‘go to next slide' button. The user then cannot seem to be able to return to the quiz.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am experiencing a problem with the Quiz feature of Captivate 7. Correct answers are submitting o.k., but Incorrect answers are not. You cannot go forward with them, i.e., the program will not Continue or go to the next question with an Incorrect answer in the Assessment.

This presentation has 15 Knowledge Check questions (0 points) and 10 Assessment Questions (10 points each).

Also the buttons don't always work correctly, i.e. Clear, Next, Back.

What could I try?

Can I reset the answer to a quiz question when the learner returns to that slide?

I have a multiple choice question in the middle of my course that is set to 'infinite' attempts. After the user answers the question correctly and continues with the course, they may decide to hit 'back' and navigate back to the quiz question. I want to 'reset' the previously submitted answer so that the user can answer the question again as many times as they like. However, the question is locked and does not allow the user to select a different answer. I have tried adding the 'clear' button and changing the question from 'graded' to 'survey' but neither has worked. Is it possible to reset the quiz question after the user returns to that slide?

Using Captivate 8 on Mac OS 10.9

I have a question pool and have a quiz pulling 10 random questions from that pool. All worked well until I added a countdown timer. Now, I can use the Next button on the first of the questions, but on any subsequent questions the Next and Clear buttons no longer work. So the user can Submit their answer but not move forward in the quiz. I have tested this in preview many times, and it doesn't matter which questions are brought up the behavior is the same.

I'm new to using Captivate, so I'm learning as I go. Where do I start for troubleshooting this?

Hi All.

I'm hoping that someone can help me.

I've created a relatively simple e-Learning course using Captivate 7, that has the following structure:

Part One Learning, Part One Assessment

Part Two Learning, Part Two Assessment

Part Three Learning, Part Three Assessment

Within each of the short assessments there are two alternatives to each question (so the learner has two chances to get a question right). So learner is presented with Q1, if they get that wrong they are presented with Q1b if they get it right they jump straight to slide Q2.

The module was set to 'branch aware' so that the results slide displays the correct percentages and ascertains if the learners has passed/failed based on the number of questions asked.

This all worked ok, but then we wanted to add some more functionality to the 'retake quiz option' which was as follows:

- 1st attempt the learners completes Part one learning, Part one assessment, Part two learning, Part two assessment, Part three learning, part three assessment (i.e the whole module).

If they don't get the pass mark then on the...

- 2nd attempt the learner only gets presented with each of the assessments (nb not Part One Learning, Part Two Learning, Part Three Learning split just the question slides).

If they don't get the pass mark then on the...

- 3rd attempt they go through the entire module again (Part one learning, Part one assessment, Part two learning, Part two assessment, Part three learning, part three assessment).

To achieve this I have set up the following advanced actions:

- On Results slide execute the 'success script' as per the attached.

Then on the slides immediately after the assessment questions I've added the following advanced actions on Enter to say that on the second quiz attempt go straight to the next assessment question.

The problem is that after adding these scripts then the results screen is blank.

I have set up the same advanced actions on a different project and it works fine, but that didn't need to have branch aware checked so I'm wondering if that is the root of the problem, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

Can anyone help identify where I may have gone wrong?

Hi all!

My course has several practice ungraded questions, a real test (9 graded questions), and an "after course" reportable survey (8 questions). I want students to be able to retake the quiz once. The Quiz Results slide now automatically appears after the survey. I want to show quiz results and put the retake quiz button on a custom quiz results slide after the test but before the survey so students don't go thru the survey before they see how they did. I want students to get the opportunity to retake the quiz just after having taken it - and not after having taken the survey. And I don't want survey question info to show up on the "real" quiz results slide - makes no sense to the students. I also want to report student success in terms of percentage completed on the test - not just in points scored.

Please help. How do I do this? I'm in Captivate 8.

Video playback to slow in published scorm packages

Hi I have created a sample e-learning course in captivate 8. Its has few content slides, one video size (usinf mp4 format size 9 mb) and a quiz at the end. The video plays fins when previewing. However when I publish the same course into SCORM 1.2 format and plays from the LMS it takes very long time to play the video.

The video setting I have used in the project are as follows

Video type : Progressive download video

Skin : No skin

and I selected an "Event video" type

Does anyone having similar issues with videos? If yes, Did you manage to fix it

Captivate 8 module not working properly with Desire2Learn

Captivate is supposed to work "out of the box" with the LMS Desire2Learn but I've experienced multiple problems, most of which are related to accurate scoring of SCORM objects in the D2L gradebook. We've tried SCORM 2004 and SCORM 1.2. The main errors the Desire2Learn folks are getting that I wanted to check with Adobe are as follows, and I am at my wits end at this point. These are from SCORM 1.2 packages as those seem somewhat more stable.

SCORM Error:122 - Retrieve Data Before Initialization using SCOverseer to test the module.

"The host LMS for this dispatch returned an empty learner id (via LMSGetValue('cmi.core.student_id')). Since the learner id is required for dispatch, the launch has been halted" error within Desire2Learn for support users specifically (which makes sense if those users aren't enrolled in a course). That said, the "retrieve data before initialization' error is problematic and confusing.

Also, the module gives an ³Error initializing communications with the LMS² error and displays an extra page (Choose an Activity) after viewing the object.

These modules were exported from Captivate 8 as HTML/SWF. If you have any thoughts on this or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.

I am building a quiz. Unfortunately at this stage it can not go on the corporate LMS. The instructors want the users to be able to print out the results page. I added the print widget. It works fine but I don't want users accidentally clicking exit before they have printed their results. I would like some kind of fool proof method. Any ideas?

Attempts not recording to LMS

Hi everyone,

I need some help.

I have published a course from captivate 6 to SCORM 1.2. When I run it within the LMS every attempt just overwrites the previous attempt and the attempt number is always just set to 1 no matter how many times I re-attempt the course. What it should do is update the attempt based on the number of times you launch the course.

I have had a hunt around and found someone with my exact same problem (Different authoring tool. same LMS)

Attempts not recording to LMS

The issue seems to be around:

var DEFAULT_EXIT_TYPE = EXIT_TYPE_SUSPEND; in Configuration.js to:

var DEFAULT_EXIT_TYPE = EXIT_TYPE_UNLOAD;

Would anyone know how I could make captivate report EXIT_TYPE_UNLOAD.

I am happy to update the exported scormdriver.js file. Just not sure what I need to change.

For auditing purposes, I need to keep a record of the user's response to each question of a 35 question quiz.

I don't think my LMS (Halogen) has this capability. Is there a way to keep a record of each slide, outside of screen capturing each response?

Captivate 7 - Quiz Retake Button Not Displaying

Quiz settings have been set to infinite attempts for a failing quiz and the checkbox is clicked to display the "Retake Quiz" button on the slide.

That said, I'm getting reports that some users are not seeing the Retake Quiz button when they fail, so they are unable to retake it. This seems to be an intermittent issue, and I haven't been able to replicate it on my end testing with various internet browsers. I also ran it through SCORM Cloud and it didn't report any issues. I'm using SCORM 1.2, and published as SWF.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Quiz stuck on a slide after failing and retaking

I have a quiz which hangs on a particular slide after user retakes it. The slide appears with the objects prearranged (draggable shapes) and the user cannot actually drag any smart shape. Hence stuck in there...

Captivate 5.5 Pass/Fail course to display as incomplete in LMS if quiz has not been started

We are testing a Captivate 5.5 file that is a Pass/Fail course with a score of 80%. When our learners launch the course and close out they are marked as Failed even though they have not attempted the course. Is there a way to get the course to display as incomplete until the quiz has been attempted in Captivate 5.5? It looks like this may be the case in newer versions of Captivate allow for this based on the Status Representation now having the option of Incomplete > Passed/Failed. If this does not work in the 5.5 version, can we confirm that the newer versions behave this way?

I have a question regarding quiz slides in captivate 7. I have a client who wants a module to assess how compliant they are within a particular field. This quiz will consist of up to 150 questions, each being either true or false or multiple choice.

I need them to be able to skip questions, if they are not yet ready to answer if they are compliant, I also need the quiz to be able to handle the fact that the client will need to change the answer of questions once they are then compliant. However, I don’t particularly want them to have to re-sit the whole 150 questions again – is there a way of doing this? Is the survey type of question the way to go?

I am using Captivate 8 and publishing to Adobe Connect. On the fill-in-the-blank questions, the module is allowing the learners to type an answer, even though I have selected a drop down list format and included answers for them to choose from. These typed answers are being scored as incorrect - found the issue when I started tracking answers. I tried to replicate the issue on my own, but the screen won't let me type in the box - only choose from drop down answers. Any idea how they are typing in an answer and how to fix that? I don't want them typing - want learners to choose from offered answers. Help, please

I have knowledge check questions, which aren't scored, and I don't want to be part of the quiz. How can I ensure these aren't counted in the score? Also, how can I get Captivate to go to the first question in the quiz when learner clicks Retake button on Assessment Results slide? It returns to the first Knowledge Check question that's in the course. I am using Cp7 and I'm stumped.

Hi there,

I'm having a problem with the alignment of quiz questions (I'm using Captivate 8 on a Mac). When I first set up the questions, the answers were lined up right next to the check boxes, so there was approx 5-10px between the check box and answer. Now suddenly, the answers are much further away from the check boxes - see below. This means the answers have wrapped onto the next line and have been chopped off.

This only seems to happen with with some quiz questions and not all of them. I can't work out a way of moving the text back closer to the check boxes. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Captivate counting wrong number of quiz questions

What I am trying to do here is Create a quiz with 50+ questions, be able to publish the quiz and somehow upload to a website,server,email whatever works. And have my students, take the quiz,put their name and email and I will be able to see there quiz results for each student.

I have received help from captivate support team. And after everything was up and running, I was frustrated to find out that with captivate quiz results analyzer(internal server) that my students that are in different parts of the world with different computers. Can't take the quiz because they aren't on the same server as me.

So, I was wondering if I get hostgator build and host my own website; is there a way to upload the quiz to the server and still have captivates quiz results analyzer work,and my students will be able to access the quiz from wherever? If, so what are the steps to load everything to the server,ftp etc.

Quiz slide troubles

I imported a Captivate 5 presentation into Captivate 8 and my one quiz question slide in the entire presentation is giving me issues (worked fine in Captivate 5). The presentation freezes on the slide after the question. There are no settings I can find that would be causing this (e.g., pause).

I tried deleting the quiz slide and reinserting a new one (thinking there was some sort of transition glitch between Captivate 5 and Captivate 8), but this did not solve the problem. Additionally, the review area now appears on all slides subsequent to the question slide. I've looked at a number of settings and can't figure out why.

I don't know if this is related or not, but the playback bar is being weird as well. If you try to move forward or back by clicking and dragging using the playback bar, you essentially can't "let go" and any movement you make with the mouse (including to buttons in the presentation or on the playback bar) just causes scrolling through the presentation slides.

Any suggestions on how to fix this mess?

I would like to include the total number of questions in the intro slide. (I know I can just manually count up the questions and add that as a text caption). I am wonder if there is a way to insert this dynamically as it is in the results slide.

{total-questions} doesn't just work on its own on any other slide.

Hi,

I'm using Captivate 8, and made a simple multiple choice quiz, with an option "submit all button".

It works correct, except for when using the back button,and when i clicking many slides in right side navigation.

When trying to submit, I get the following message:

"One or more questions is incomplete. Answer all questions to continue."

the problem occurs with publications in HTML5, the SWF Flash version all goes well.

Quiz review does not display correct or incorrect on click boxes that are included in the quiz?

Quiz consists of question slides and a recorded assessment. The click boxes reporting are set to include in quiz, add to total and report answers. When testers review the quiz at the end the questions slides display correct and incorrect answers however the slides that are part of the recorded assessment with click boxes there's no indication of correct or incorrect. It just displays the screens. I need to have the ability to know which answers and click boxes were correct and incorrect for training purposes.

Controlling User Continue

Tried to do a search for something aligned with this topic, but I just couldn't find anything specific to it.

Using Captivate 5, I have created a quiz using a question pool (the client wants ten random questions from a pool of twenty).

The user is allowed two attempts for each question and one attempt for the quiz. They must answer all questions.

My issue is this; how can I set the condition where the user cannot continue to the next question unless they have either

a) Answered the question correctly

b) Used both of their attempts

With my current set up, if the user answers once, they are allowed to continue whether they answered correctly or not. There doesn't seem to be an organic method to track attempts and I don't want the user to inadvertently answer once incorrectly and go to the next question, without realizing that they did not use their allotted attempts.

While I am well-versed with Flash Actionscript 2 and 3, I am definitely not a pro with Captivate, so I have very little practical experience with advanced actions or scripting my own actions.

acrobat.com option missing from quiz reporting preferences in Captivate 8.

Anyone else have this or am I missing something? I just can't see the acrobat.com option in the quiz preferences. Any ideas?

Setting milestones on specific slides which could mark a course as complete

I've created a course using Captivate which contains several different sections. Each section was at one point a separate course, but I have now combined them into one large course. What I'd like to do is be able to mark a one of those individual courses as complete in our LMS when a user has reached a specific slide. For example, if user reaches slide 21, I'd like to mark course ABC_123 as complete for them in our LMS. Is this possible?

How do I make my quiz go to a pass page if the user passes and a failed/try again page if the user fails based on the number of correct clicks?

I have built a scenario based quiz. The user must select the correct area, marked by a click box, to receive a correct mark. If they earn an 80% or higher it takes them to the passing page, if its less than 80% it takes them to the please try again page. I have two advanced actions created one is to modify quiz 1 to read 1 if they get higher than 80%. The second advanced action is the deciding action. It says if quiz results says 1, continue to the next page which is the passing page else, go to page 22 which is the failed page. It seems like it should work in theory, but its not. Any ideas or suggestions on how to make this work correctly would be greatly appreciated.

GIFT format file - special formatting and Cap alignment

I'm testing out using the GIFT format for a large upcoming project. 2 questions:

1. Is there a way to tag the GIFT file to indicate special formatting, such as the subscript in H<sub>2</sub>O? Moodle documentation shows using the actual HTML tags, but Captivate doesn't recognize them in my tests.

2. The question caption on my master slide is bottom aligned. When I import a GIFT file, the question text is still bottom aligned, but only the first line is displayed. The text is all there, but any text after the first wrap is "below" the caption box. Has anyone else noticed this? (I know if there's too much text to fit in the caption, it would have to be manually adjusted, but that's not the case here.)

Unanswered questions on Quiz are not counted correctly when going back

Hi,

I'm using Captivate 8, and made a simple multiple choice quiz, with a "submit all" option.

It works fine, except for when using the back button.

When trying to submit, I get the following message:

"One or more questions is incomplete. Answer all questions to continue."

It seems that questions that are revisited keep the previous answer, but are marked as unanswered.

Captivate 7 Timer Question

I have a project that requires (a) a question pool and (b) a timer. It has been working great to insert the timer widget on the 1st question (not in the pool, so I can apply the timer), have the timer display for the rest of the project, and then hide the timer from the last (quiz results slide), but I've run into one problem. I've had 2 learners who get to the quiz results page (after clicking Submit All) with approximately 30 seconds remaining on the timer. If the timer runs out while they're still reading the quiz results, they get a time out error. Is there a way I can avoid this problem? Thanks!

Unable to get to Quiz slides in CP 6.0.1.240

I have created a sample CPTX file with some blank content slides followed by quiz slides with default content. When I publish the project, the project hangs after the content slides. The skin disappears and I just see the blank screen. I have tested it locally and on webserver.

What could be the issue?
