I am in a situation where I have an html page with a static embed of StrobeMediaPlayback.swf. Looks like it is version 2.0 if that is important.

By static, I mean it does not use swfObject to embed the player. The <object> tag and all the parameters are hard-coded into th html. I can not change this embed.

I would like to be able to seek the video using javascript. Is this possible and how can I do it? All off the examples I have found rely on using javascript to embed the player

Thanks in advance

Can't play an RTMP streaming on OSMF/Strobe but I do with JWPlayer

How do I use media.player.metadata in my config.xml file?

I'm trying to use the Strobe Media Playback player with the AppMeasurementExtensionOSMF.swf plugin. I've created a config.xml file which tracks the basic parameters (milestones, timePlayed, etc).

What I don't understand (and I've been looking everywhere online) is how to use media.player.metadata to read custom metadata values so I can pass those along for tracking.

The documentation that I've read gives the example of overriding the Video Name with a custom value. Here's an excerpt from this url(http://microsite.omniture.com/t2/help/en_US/sc/appmeasurement/video/index.html#Using_OSMF_ Metadata_to_Override_a_Video_Name):

You can override this with OSMF metadata by using variable binding to bind <samp class="ph codeph">Media.autoTrackMediaName</samp> to the OSMF metadata of your choice.

You can do this using either an XML config file, or using ActionScript. Both of the following examples override the video name with the episodeID from the OSMF metadata.

<autoTrackMediaName>{media.player.metadata(http://www.corp1.com/,episodeID)}</autoTrackMediaName>

What I don't understand is where does the "episodeID" in the example above come from? I have an external xml file with all my metadata values for the video but how can I read them and target them in the config.xml file? I hope I'm making sense.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks you,

  Lawrence

Image  with and AudioElement

Hi,

I'm looking for something mixing an image with an AudioElement. (to show the cover an an audio file while playback) Just like a poster but while playback.

I already tried to use a ParallelElement mixing an AudioElement & ImageElement. It worked for playback. However using ParallelElement bothers me a little, because i'm also doing _somewhere else_ in my source code the following thing : for an element (example AudioElement), I'm turning later in the code its resource to an URLResource so that I can get the initial url (using URLResource.url attribute). I really need to be able to get the initial url of my AudioElement. I would find a bit dirty to say something like : if my element is an AudioElement (see point 2. below) then get the url of its ressource attributes else if it is a ParallelElement then get the url of the resource attribute of the first child of it.

So the problem and my ideas are the following :

A ParallelElement doesn't have notion of 'resource' ('cause it's a CompositeElement), so I'm not able to turn it to an URLResource. I tried it (overriding ressource getter of the ParallelElement to tell him to return the AudioElement resource of My ParallelElement while calling the getter) but then playback fails badly. But I really need to get the initial url of my main resource which is the audio file.

Playing a ParallelElement turns my image to be at the same level than my audio element. Or to me the image is optional as my audio file can have a cover or not. Which mean I have to dispatch my audio files into ParallelElement on one hand (when there is an image) and simple AudioElement on the other (when there is not) just because of an optional thing on my main element.

Could there be a way to expend my AudioElement by creating a new Element in strobe which will be an extend of AudioElement but with also the traits of an ImageElement ?

I had the idea of using a ProxyElement and tell it that my AudioElement is the proxied element, but I don't really see how to add my image in the proxy part so that it could be displayed at playback.

Thank you

I've got a build of StrobeMediaPlayer, and I'm trying to hook up the CaptioningPlugin as a static plugin. After the plugin loads, I think I'm supposed to create metadata on a URLResource that represents the DFXP file I'm trying to get the plugin to load and parse. Something like (but perhaps this is wrong):

  var res:URLResource = new URLResource("http://localhost/~bbotkin/sintel.dfxp");

                              player.media.resource.addMetadataValue(CaptioningPluginInfo.CAPTIONING_MET ADATA_NAMESPACE,res);

  //listen for the TemporalFacet to be added to media element

  *** factory.addEventListener(MetadataEvent., onFacetAdded);

My problem starts at the line above. The CaptioningPlugin docs say to listen for the TemporalFacet to be loaded and then start listening for TemporalFacetEvents. Following an example, I thought I'd listen for a FACET_ADDED event and then see if it was a TemporalFacet and then set up another listener for the TemporalFacetEvents.

My problem is that I can't seem to find any definition for Facets or TemporalFacets or any such in the OSMF or SMP source code available. Any suggestions of what to include and import?

Thanks.

--Brad

SMP Seek issue

Hi all,

I now have an OSMF based player that is working quite good but we'd like to change to StrobeMediaPlayback because it has a lot of features out of the box.

I've tested the player but I've not been able to deep check the code.

All seems to be working fine except one thing; the SeekBar.

With "not working" I mean that the default behaviour of SMP -or at least in my version- is to not seek until the seeking target is loaded.

This is fine for short or low qty videos. But this behaviour becomes a nightmare for long or high qty videos.

For now, I'm testing with an .mp4 video and the streaming protocol is HTTP (no dynamic streaming, rtmp or live issue).

I've seen a lot of SMP modified players that can seek anywhere and doesn't matter if video is fully loaded or not.

So the question is, how SMP manages the seeking logic? Can I seek beyond loaded/buffer time in the scrub bar? Does it by default or I have to code it?

And for more information, where is the code/logic for the controlbar elements -play, pause, seek, fullscreen, etc...-?
I've been looking around the code but found nothing clear.

Thanks a lot,

Adrian.

Problem with control bar on Air app for Android

I have modified the StrobeMediaPlaybackAir sample to only display a videoplayer, and have registered a custrom url-scheme so that I can open the player from a web browser in Android. This works as expected for the first video, it plays, and everything works quite nicely. However, when I press the android back-button, and go back to the browser, and select a new link that opens the player, the control bar is hidden beneath the video element (this also happens for a custom text-field that I added for subtitles). I can see a couple of pixels of the controlbar at the bottom of the video, so I can tell its still there, and its working, but it seems the child stack has been modified somehow, so that the video element is now on top of everything else. Has anyone got a tips on how to fix this issue?

The only code that gets executed afaik in this process, is my custom onInvoke handler, which sets the configuration.src and configuration.poster based on arguments from the url, before calling loadMedia on the StrobeMediaPlayback object.

here is the source, if it is of any help.

How to make SMP to automatically continue playing if live stream starts again?

Hi,

I am using SMP to play live stream. If for example live stream is not available for some reason then the player stops playing and shows an error message. When the live stream is up and running again the player is not automatically continuing to play it again. How to make SMP to automatically continue playback if live stream starts again? I need it because I might need to make some adjustments to the encoder program so I have to stop streaming for few seconds. Then after adjustments I can start the stream again but in order for SMP to continue playing one has to refresh the page.

Thank you in advance!
