Using note-taking functionality in DPS folio

I'm trying to use note-taking with html and java script (Add note-taking functionality to a folio | Adobe Developer Connection) with a DPS folio.

The iPad 4 displays the note records correctly. On the iPad2 the note records are displayed in duplicate.

Is there a way to adapt the code to work with iPad 2?

HI DPS Team,

we are trying to migrate the legacy app to native android.

In the legacy app there was a feature to include custom banner URLs for direct entitlement. In the native version not.

Can you tell me if feature this is on your roadmap?

Further Details:

We have set up an Entitlement Server, users can login within the banner and if successful get entitled.

The android native app should include this external banner url, user should be entitled and the app should load the entitled folios.

Can you tell me a way how to do this?

Folio Overlays-Web Content: Work in Container/Frame.

By adding a check box to “Work in Container” in the Web Content window you could make it so that you never activate the full screen web browser in IOS or be redirected to a web browser in Android when navigating inside of a web content container / frame. Tapping links would navigate you inside of the container / frame, not the full screen (native) browser.

This would be so beneficial in many instances in keeping the user engaged and not making it feel like you have left the App. This would allow greater control for say adding purchases to a cart. Navigate to the next page of a website without leaving the current page of the App by being redirected to a full screen web browser that you have to tap Done to. The user experience could become that much more fluid and engaging. I still like the idea of the full page browser but it would be nice to keep the experience in the same screen as the App all be it a smaller screen or even a full page screen that I do not have to tap "Done" to. I know you would not have navigation buttons like back but for what I want to accomplish I don’t need them. There are far more positives than negative in adding such a feature.

Problem to upload an app with Apple Application Loader.

After I published with success a new .ipa with DPS when I tried to upload with Application Loader, the system refused my app.

In the past I never had this problem since last week it is impossible until now.

When I asked help the Apple developer assistance, says:

The error you’re receiving now does make sense that it was caused by the Adobe DPS program. Sometimes when using 3rd party app builders it will cause a similar error when attempting to upload a new app or update.

Unfortunately Apple does not support 3rd party app builders, and I would suggest contacting the support group at Adobe in regards to DPS and what setting you need to adjust within the program to successfully upload the app.

When contacting them be sure to have the description of the error ready for them. I’ve seen this similar case with previous developers that have used the Adobe app builder, and have reached a resolution with contacting them.

What can I do?

Feature Request: Several Key Items

I am not really new to DPS. Have been publishing under contract for my client for the last 2 years now and it's been going great. However, there seems to be a few things we wish for that we can't seem to do. I figured this is probably the best place to request these features, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that somehow these make their way into an update or are considered maybe for other program features (you'll see what I mean later when I get into it).

1) It would be nice if we could produce apps for android phones as well as tablets. I am more of an iOS guy but we do have a bunch of users who want to access these folios on their phablets and android phones but cannot get access to it. I don't know how complicated this process might be but it would be a great feature to add in any upcoming DPS releases.

2) We are using DPS for publishing but we have been requested to use it in an "app style". The client wants this because they are comfortable with DPS and happy that their staff can use pretty much all the adobe suite programs. Maybe an ability to disable the browse toolbar (where the thumbails for articles show up and navigate). This way we can create a single page with MSOs and trick the user into thinking they're in an app instead of a digital magazine publishing platform app. This would work great for companies that want an app to accompany their magazine and display info about the company, how to reach them etc instead of having certain pages within the magazine.

3) A muse widget. I would love if we could directly export muse files directly into DPS (say, as if we were importing an image). I know this may be much to ask since this isn't the Muse feature request board but it woudl be nice to be able to export it as a widget that will automatically package it into an element with all the required files to import into DPS.

4) As muse and DPS are both great apps for designers who don't know how to code, maybe one or the other, or creating an app that is based off of the two could be an excellent choice for deisgners. There is a huge gap in the market for app builders. Muse is mainly a web builder and DPS is mainly for publishing. I think if Adobe could maybe mash the two into an app that helps users build basic apps. Imagine being able to make an app the same way you do in DPS? Having preset widgets such as capture image from camera, use geolocation, upload to server or whatever. I'm not too verse in this but it'd be nice if I could use an Adobe app to build an app that wasn't just a digital magazine. Maybe my lack of knowledge in this area is simplfying the whole process so forgive me if that's the case. From a business perspective it just seems that there is a huge gap for this, and maybe Adobe can conjure something up for the Adobe Faithful.

5) Automatic web viewer. Would be nice if whatever displayed on my iPad can automatically shoot up into a web viewer linked to a business catalyst account or a specified server as an HTML5 file. Again, I haven't gone too much into the web viewer version so forgive me if this already exists, but I have looked through some documentation and not really found much on it.

6) WIDGETS! More widgets like muse would be a life saver! Maybe something like a slideshow instead of just having the MSOs fade in and fade out, maybe allow a widget to do a slideshow that snaps into place everytime you swipe. It seems more natural since a lot of the apps function this way. Widgets also open up a lot of doors, maybe allowing users to create their own widget and housing a widget library on the adobe website?

Just some thoughts, not sure which ones are really doable but I figured it's worth a shot requesting them.

It's very good that the new analytics is done in HTML5 and could be displayed on the tablet devices. The only problem here is that DPS Dashboard is still in flash. Could you please make the main Dashboard in HTML5, so we may use analytics on the mobile devices and the rest of the things in flash?

Relative Path to image sequence/panorama folder for networked/shared drives

When using image sequence overlay (or any overlay requiring a folder of image (3d panorama…) it would be very practical to be able to give relative paths, especially when working on a networked volume.

Typically the path would be "MyFirstUser/SomeSharedFolder/Links/InteractiveFolder" and would require that my collaborator rename it "Collaborator/SomeSharedFolder/Links/InteractiveFolder"

Since the inD file is located in Collaborator/SomeSharedFolder/ or MyFirstUser/SomeSharedFolder/ then i would love to be able to type :

/Links/InteractiveFolder/ only.

I'm interacting with a collaborator and everytime he makes a modification on the file he has to rename the overlay's folder, same on my side.

Unless i missed it there's no easy way to do it.

Some unpractical workaround consists of having either of us build the folio on our own machine online, then share it and the other one "copies" inside the Folio Producer Editor.

Or did i miss something ?

As a smaller developer in it would be very useful to offer single edition licenses for a wide range of other devices. Moving up to the Pro Edition is quite a jump when you are first starting out and you can't prove a financial justification for the yearly payment of 4k plus.

There must be others like us who are starting to develop apps and need an initial soft financial start before taking a bolder step.

Could you pls include Web Content Viewer in DPS SE as well?

Hi, i have a test apps (.ipa) installed on my iPad, and since i updated to iOs 7 my apps crashes. I have tried rebuild the apps, and changing the provisioning profile, but nothing works.

Layers management

Using InDesign for DPS makes layers panel useless, as long as interactive objects override any other static element.

Making interactive objects respect layers would be my favorite Christmas gift.

I have been a Creative Cloud subscriber for over a year now as both a student and an educator and I have noticed one glaring thing wrong with including a subscription for DPS Single Edition for students (and small design & publishing houses/freelancers). In a nutshell, Single Edition is not enough to really launch people into Digital Publishing with the skills needed.

First and foremost SE is iOS-only. Because of Apple's refusal to allow 100% app devleopment/testing/signing on Windows, this requires students to own a Mac. While the program I teach in is done on Macintosh, about 75% of my students use Windows on their personal machines. Signing the apps using the lab computers would be a violation of the college Acceptable Use policies.

In addition, they need access to create content on Android, Windows, and Kindle Fire as well as most publications are at least on Apple/Android (and by extention Kindle) platforms.

My proposal is to create Digial Publication Suite Creative Cloud Edition. It would be just like Single Edition but allow for Multiple Folios that would allow entities to create digital publications and update them just like a real publication house such as Condé-Nast. Second, it would be available on all platforms allowing Windows users to utilize the subscription and also allow for them to prepare and test documents on multiple platforms. The third feature added would be limited analytics.

Horizontal or vertical option for image sequence swipe direction

as many of us use image sequences swiping for multiple purpose (like 3D rotation of an object etc...) it would be great get the ability to choose the swip direction for the image sequence.

For many purposes the vertical option seems to be so much logical in order to move the object.

Does it looks like something possible ?

While the article content may be relevant and a good review for clinicians, the app does not load reliably, nor are new issues provided frequently. In the 4 months I have had this subscription, I have received 2 new periodicals, both I had to re-download multiple time."

We need to have a review features implemented into the app that will substitute useless itunes reviews. The idea is to have it:

1) nonintrusive;

2) send positive feedback to the itunes;

3) send negative to the support team.

Add background audio playing in v.26?

I think it'll be great if the new folio version could support background audio playing. Since many publications integrate audio in the book, some books are even purely audio books with texts, if the user could turn off the screen while listen to the text, that'll be really cool. So I am suggesting add this function in the update of the folio version. What do you guys think?

Export Format In PDF Articles - Vector as default

I would like to request that 'Vector' be made the default (or an option allowed for users to change the default) for 'Export Format in PDF Artciles' in Slideshows and Scrollable Frames.

In my line of work - newspaper and magazine publishing - roughly 99.9% of Slideshows and precisely 100% of Scrollable Frames contain text and therefore *must* be set to Vector otherwise our pages look pants on a Retina display. It is troublesome and needlessly expensive for us to be changing Raster content to Vector over and over and over again. And over and over. And over and over.

We're finding that big scrolls and MSOs might be set to Vector in our templates but, after a bit of chopping, changing and copy-pasting on live pages by designers, they revert to Raster. Can you imagine how infuriating it would be if you applied a custom Swatch to an object, only to have it keep reverting to Black? Well, this is what it's like with the Raster business.

Hello, I am trying to get my Developer app ( .ipa ) on the DPS App Builder ... and always get the same message "signing failed, please try again". As seen on the forums, I have no accent, space or special characters in my Folio's names.

I am trying this for more than 3 days without any success.

Some support from Adobe's specialist would be definitely appreciated !!!!!

If this could be organized somehow - 1st ask people for 5 things they wish the most they can have in DPS and then add those to one list (grouped by sections/subsystems) and allow for all others to cast their votes. Someone could moderate that feature requests priotirized list and agregate features that are close related.

The more I get involved with helping people develop iPhone DPS apps, I wish for 2 capabilities in DPS:

1. It would be really nice to be able to arrange the articles vertically. We have the option now with the "horizontal swipe only" option to arrange the pages of an article horizontally. But I want the pages of each article to remain with a vertical swipe, but place each article below the other so you can just swipe vertically through the entire app. This would simplify navigation for apps where a horizontal and vertical navigation experience is too complex.

2. The ability to disable page-to-page and article-to-article swiping entirely. I have a customer with an app in development where they are providing the entire navigation system with buttons, so they really don't want the user to accidentally swipe from screen to screen. It would be nice if articles and folios could still be created just as they are now, but have an option in App Builder to disable swiping. We probably would want to also disable the browse button in this scenario also, but the rest of the ui could remain as-is.

I thought I'd throw this out there. I would find it really useful.

Folio Producer (organizer): what about ergonomy ?

It would be great to have an ergonomic and user-friendly interface instead of the current organizer web page:

. awful sharing option management (try and share -or unshare- several folios with several different customers to see what I mean)

. no ability to custom or choose the view (filter by date, by name, or any other available criteria)

. no compliancy with iPad viewing !

Multi-download for corporate customers?

Insurance companies have 50 or more catalogs on iPad and each file size is 5~20MB. It is very uncomfortable for users, sales persons, to tap download and wait one by one.

Do you have any plan to develop this feature?

Entitlement based on IP-address

The current entitlement model in DPS Enterprise requires for each user to get and maintain a login. For schools and corporations it is often a better solution to simply give all within a given IP-address range access. Such a model is working very well for web sites behind paywalls.

Would it be possible for the app to send the IP-address and let the entitlement server verify the address. A valid address should provide the user with "instant login" and remove the need for manual login.

Thumbnail image does not appear

Hi,

Instead of writing this in the docs: "However, no thumbnails appear in articles that use the PDF image format", better yet place in the Thumbnail view a thumbnail image with crossed red diagonals and writing in the middle: "Not available for the PDF article format".

It could also have "Click to generate thumbnail from PDF. This will can take a few seconds" functionality.

Option to Add Built-in Folio to Multi-folio Viewer App

Dear DPS developers,

We would like to allow potential customers to preview one issue (folio), but that could bring thousands of downloads a month (our app is #5 in it's category in Canada) and we may lose substantial amount of money on downloads. Sell the ads is not an option for us.

We can't have a lite version of the viewer either as Apple is rejecting our app - "Binary Rejected.

Reasons for Rejection: 2.9: Apps that are “beta”, “demo”, “trial”, or “test” versions will be rejected"

If we can please build our branded viewer the way it's done in Adobe Content Viewer - with access to multi folio content and one build-in folio that is part of the binary code, hence no downloads for it. This will also take signioficant amount of load off Adobe content servers as all the "trial" content will be downloaded from Apple.

We'll appreciate your feedback.

Desktop Viewer for Mac/Windows

This has been mentioned before, but again, it would be very helpful to have a "1-click" export of the entire publication as a PDF.

We need this for both review, and to provide a desktop version of our magazine due to the lack of a desktop viewer.

When you paste the content frame into the container frame, any button with an MSO state action loses its action.

When you paste a button nav bar from one State to Another in a frame (for example for a scrolling thumb gallery) it loses its action.

adobe please change this behaviour because now building gallery with interfaces button it's a pain and timeloss.

If this has already been requested, I apologize for the duplicate request. For those developers using DPS outsde of the magazine/publishing industry please make it possible to disable either horizontal or vertical swiping (or both) so that the user must utilize navigation created by the developer.

Adding Adobe Content Viewer to Desktop for users without InDesign 5, 5.5, 6

We are starting to sell digital advertising and it would be nice if Adobe Content Viewer could be downloaded to the desktop for these advertisers who do not have tablet devices nor have InDesign 5, 5.5 and 6 on their machine. Auto starting scrolling frame

Scrolling frames are great but cannot be autostarted. That means something like a long movie credit list, as far as I understand, can only be a movie that I prepare in Flash and takes a lot of memory.

I also tried via an external html page that does trigger scrolling text automatically in my browser, but the import into DPS does not work.

Unless I am maissing something?

I was trying to archive lots of things today in scroll frame that I found basically impossible... For one, I found if you try to lay anything over the top of a scrollframe, you can't. Scroll frame seems to push to the top no matter what you do with layers, or arranging (in InDesign), so some type of z-indexing or arrangement settings would be nice. I found that if I made the top piece I was trying to float over everything a scroll frame too, then I could get it to float over the top of my first scroll frame, but then when you touch the hit area of the top scroll frame, obviously that causes that top piece to scroll... if I try to set the top piece to off that is basically like deleting the folio overlay, so why have an off setting if it just deletes the overlay? Then I wondered if I could change the hit area by changing the shape of the frame, and it turns out the hit area is being determined by the bounding box, and not the frame shape of the InDesign frame. It would be cool if you could define scroll rates and attach several scroll frames to a single hit area, so you could create parallax like effects or potentially scroll one frame one way while scrolling another frame another direction... All things I might be able to do by embedding html or edge animate files, but at that point, then I question why not just make the file completely in one of those other solutions. It would be cool to be able to do these things natively in InDesign for publications . I will stop here for now, and hope that someone who works on the app actually reads this .

Social Sharing & Variable Length Pages in Stacks

We've brought this up a few times, but it would probably be helpful to have others make some noise about it as well.

Not being able to have variable page length articles/stacks is already problematic in aggregating analytical data, but it's going to get much worse when the integrated Social Sharing is otherwise well developed.

Most articles have to be broken into several stacks due to varying page lengths, and if a user shares.. lets say the third stack, someone who clicks on that share link is only going to get whatever's in the third stack. There needs to be some mechanism to aggregate these stacks together (Or better, allow varying length pages in one ID document to be imported into one article/stack). All of our feature articles are currently made up of multiple stacks.

Multiple HTMLResources Files

Would it be possible in a future release to have more than one HTMLResources package in a folio? And allow developers to customize the names of these packages so we're not restricted to the exact file naming system currently in place? It would be nice to have an HTMLResource pack for PDFs, a separate one for videos, etc. That way if a minor addition is made then we don't have to upload one massive HTMLResources.zip every time.

Just wondering. It seems like something that could definitely be done.

If you log in using the native "log in" button in a custom viewer, you see the label change to "log out" and you see the library updating...

Wouldn't it make more sense if the same would happen if you set the user info using the setUserInfo function?

On the same note:

If you have a custom storefront en you set the users info to whatever...it's not stored for the entire viewer, just for the browser/custom storefront.

If you log in using the native, "sign in button" on the top left, you say logged in, no matter how many slots you open or browser sessions you have in the custom viewer...

This is something that is very, very confusing for people who log in using a form in a custom store front...

Adobe DPS could be losing much of it's iPhone business to competitors.

It costs 19p to deliver my 2gb ipad DPS magazine to my readership. That's competitively priced!

My iPhone DPS magazine is only 20mb in size. It still costs 19p per fulfilment. That's not competitively priced

Magplus base their folio fulfilment at 17p per gigabyte delivered.

Sooo… I can deliver 50 magplus iPhone mags for the price of devliering just one DPS iPhone mag. Where am I going to place my business?

Please offer a reduced tarrif to deliver iPhone folios to subscribers. I'd quite like to stay with Adobe DPS!

Extend 'Show buttons/forms' button functionality to MSOs

When I have a lot of MSO's (usually with only blank and image states) and a button to display/hide them, I have to make ALL the buttons on the page hide the other MSOs that I don't want to show, in case someone shows one MSO, then another and another. This would potentially end up with a lot of MSOs showing. If I add 'Go to state 1' as butotn functionality for all the MSO's to each button, I can ensure that showing one MSO ensures that only the visible state of that MSO is visible, all others are hidden. But it means for each page with say six MSOs, each button needs six handlers, so 36 handlers per page.

But if the 'Show buttons/forms' functionality was extended to MSOs, it would be much easier to build and maintain lots of multiple MSOs - I can control which MSOs each button shows.

Does that make sense? Much easier to show that type a description for!

Change orientation.

Would it be possible to add a feature to change the orientation of a folio within the Folio Properies Panel of DPS after you have created your folio.

This could save time due to having to re-load content with incorrect orientations within a folio.
