Adding markers to RED footage in Prelude

Hey everyone, I was hoping to find a way to add markers to my RED footage without having to transcode it during ingestion. All my footage is kept on a separate drive from my computer. Two separate computers can pull from this drive so I'd love to avoid the transcode process to save me some time and allow me to edit everything RAW. Anyone have a work around to this process they know about?

Hi,

Although I managed to find out how to create custom markers in Prelude, I`m not able to change their color once I`ve created them. They seem to be linked to the marker I used to create my custom marker (hope that makes sense). They also do not show up in the marker preference setting.

What am I doing wrong here?

Automating SxS XAVC ingest on set

I shoot with a Sony F5 camera on SxS card in the XAVC format. Can I use Prelude on set to automatically backup and ingest my daily's when I connect the SxS card to my Macbook pro? I also need to make a lowres H.264 file on the end of the day containing al of the footage shot that day with timecode burned in. Can I setup Prelude or Encoder to automate this proces? Is it possible to set it up so that all individual clips on the SxS card are put together in one H.264 file with original timecode burned in?

Not sure why but none of my keyboard shortcuts are working in Prelude CC 2014.1

For example, I can't use the Cmnd + right/left arrow to move forward or backward from one marker to the next. The keyboard shortcut even in the menu is actually greyed out:

Conform files filling up hard drives, Prelude unusable.

Literally conformed until there was a MB left on the drive.

I am getting multiple multiple multiple duplicates of the .pek and .cfa files when Prelude conforms. And after changing hard drives, etc..

When I turn off the automatic conform I get no audio.

There has to be a better way! Why can't we just get rid of those conform files and have your programs just read the audio file?

How does everyone else handle this?

3 Questions: Docking Panels, Find doesn't work

Hello, I am relatively new to Prelude and I have three questions.

-First for some reason I no longer can move the panels to other positions and lock them in. That little hot spot tab is missing ??

-Secondly, The finder in the project panels isn't finding anything I enter (names of clips, subclass, comments. What am I doing wrong?

-Thirdly the Marker Type panel used to show five types of markers and now is only showing three (Subclip, Comment, and Speech Transcription.).

I have tried resetting the workspace, close and reopen the application and even reboot my computer.. Nothing helps.

I am currently using the latest version .. Prelude cc 2014.

I am on a mid 2010 iMac with OS X Yesomite..

Script Content Analysis not inserting back intro Prelude

So I have attached my script to my clip. Click on Analyse Content and click okay. Adobe Media Encoder opens and runs and completes but nothing else happens. I go back over to Prelude and there are no additional markers in my clip. Any thoughts?

I'm using a mac pro 2010, osx 10.9.5 with firewire audio through mackie onyx 1220i. I'm logging footage off a usb3 external (at usb2 speed since I dont have usb3 on my mac pro 2010), The audio will consistently drop out when using JKL scrub (particularly back scrub with J) and when it comes back it cause a loud pop, the kind that makes you worried your speakers are going to blow, like when you turn off a synth at full volume before turning it down on the mixer. Super worried about this issue and Prelude possibly blowing my speakers. Seems like a bug?

moving clips between bins

I am finding media management in prelude a real pain.

After ingesting my H264 head cam material, I often need to sort and move the rushes into appropriate bins.

I find this takes ages with with Prelude CC 3.1 why?

I also have to often start new (monthly) projects because of the long delay opening old (large) projects.

Is there a way to open project without it taking ages looking for all of the media therein referenced?

As I have many projects for this year, how can I do a search through several? Is there any way of combining or referencing other projects, or having 2 open at a time to move clips between?

I can transcode my AVCHD files to DNxHD in Media Encoder, but when I ingest through Prelude, Media Encoder Fails.

I am instructing students working on longer form projects to transcode their AVCHD material to Quicktime using the DNxHD codec (which is installed, and then preset loaded into Media Encoder).

I am doing this since it is the suggested workflow in this article:

Audio and Video glitches | AVCHD footage

It worked great last year in CS6, but this workflow is not working at all in CC2014.

When I transcode directly through Media Encoder, the process works fine, but if I ingest using Prelude (where students choose which files to transcode, set destination, etc) the transcoding fails and we get an AME error. Not sure why this would be any different than transcoding right into Media Encoder...

We are working on PCs running Windows 7.

Any suggestions?

Recently ingested a group of .mov files, but decided I didn't need them in the project, so I cleared them. Now I do need to ingest them into the project, but every time I try, I get a error flag saying the files are already ingested. But they are not in any of the bins I've created for the project, and can't seem to get them to re-ingest. I'm running the new Yosemite OS on a Mac Book Pro. Thanks.

I have ingested a stereo MXF file (Canon C300) into the recent 2014.1 release of Prelude (3.1.0 (128) build).

Then I made a rough cut and placed the MXF in there.

Now I try to add external audio tracks from the sound recordist (24-bit multichannel .WAV) by either:

- drag and dropping the external audio file (doesn't work)

- right-clicking on the audio to add via the context menu (Add track... option doesn't show up).

Now I'm wondering: is this feature, as announced here: Prelude Help | New features summary really in there?

How can i turn Prelude into a complex search criteria logging software

I need to set up Prelude so that it gets a video database of Thousands of quicktime videos and turn them into a video database by adding keywards on each of them

For example ( City name, camera model, Day or Night, Close up etc...)

The problems i got into are the following

1) i cannot find a way ( either using markers,or metadata ) so that the Title (City) turns into a Prelude collumn ( idont mind the field to be editable but to be able to be sorted

2) when i write on the bin's search field keywords such as 5d ( camera model ) it finds not only the clips that i have previously marked as 5d but also any other that contain the world or even part of it

3) I find no way to make an advance (boolean tyoe) search like (City,Day) (not even doing a 2 pass search, (City - isolates the clips having the city name i search for) and with them sorted , to add a second search criteria - it resets the search to the second one)

A) I understand that Prelude is not a database application but is there any cheat to the above scenario..?

B) Please dont give me the use the Premiere new search bins feature. (it needs to be done inside Prelude)

P.S wouldn't this be a good feature request ?

Apple ProRes in Quicktime Export

I have a client that is just starting to use Creative Cloud and Premier Pro.

When the client attempts to use Prelude to ingest, he attempts to transcode, selects quicktime, but does not see the Apple ProRes codec

Markers disappear on Panasonic footage

I spent a whole day with speech transcriptions on several different clips from a Panasonic camera. After closing Prelude and opening it the next day, all the markers were gone.

The clips are basic Panasonic footage, where they are recorded inside a "Contents" folder, and inside there are different folders, like Video for video, Audio for audio, and Clip for the XML files that tie the both together, with additional metadata information. Both Video and Audio files are in the MXF contender.

I had read that Prelude, upon the creation of markers, would save those markers as metadata by creating a file with the same name in the same folder, but with extension XMP.

Upon realizing that this hasn't happened, as both the Video and Audio folder only have the mxf files alone, I confirm this by reingesting the panasonic clips and noticing that there is no markers at all.

I noticed another thing: If I copy a video mxf file from the VIDEO folder to a separate folder and ingest that file from there, although with no audio, by creating markers there will be now present a XMP file next to the MXF.

This won't happen if I ingest the MXF file from the original folder. I can add that all the content is NOT locked, and is read and write free, if I click on info for those files.

Also, when I'm about to ingest, as I'm in the CONTENTS folder, I can see all the clips ready to be ingested if I select on the separator above to show Panasonic P2 clips. Both by adding them this way or by choosing to show All Files and then Ingesting the video files from the VIDEO folder, in both ways I get the problem of no XMP files being created upon the creation of markers and transcriptions.

My questions are, is all my work gone or is it lying somewhere else in the disk?

And if it's gone, how am I supposed to create markers without copying all the video files to a separate folder, which will render my clips audioless?

I'm trying to utilize Prelude to actually TRANSCODE some R3D material. Since R3D clips are spanned, Prelude can 'reassemble' them. (I don't understand why AME can't do this since Prelude uses AME... but...)

I get this error when trying to start the transcode in Prelude... any help out there?

How to successfully ingest usable MTS in Prelude?

I'm using Adobe Prelude CC for mac. Try to ingest raw MTS files then there is no audio in the timeline. Then I find "Prelude Help" knowing that "Raw MTS files cannot be logged in Prelude."

So I follow the "When using AVCHD files, ensure that you maintain the folder structure.", trying to ingest the original AVCHD file, but there is still the same issue that even though MTS can be ingested in the Prelude，but without the audio in the timeline, like this:

Then I try to select transcode MTS file into MOV, but then there is another problem shows that:

The Adobe Encorde has been successfully transcode the MTS to MOV, but it couldn't been send back to Prelude.

Then I try to ingest the transcoded MTS manually (which is MOV file now) into Prelude, which is could work.

So I'm so confused in what way that I could use MTS directly in Prelude? Or if my installation of Adobe prelude so how went wrong? But It's totally ok to use MOV in my PL.

Please reply me ASAP, I'm on fire about tons of interview clips to sort out, it's not possible that I have to transcode all the MTS files into MOV, then manually ingest to PL.

Prelude CC does not see presets in Media Encoder CC

I'm new at this, but am getting help from someone who has set this up and has it working in a previous version of the software(s), so we're both baffled!

I have defined a preset in Media Encoder CC, but when I go into Prelude CC to utilize it, it does not appear in the list of options. However, I am able to see and access the preset in Premiere CC .No amount of deleting/reinstalling/cursing has helped, and I don't see anything in the software that would disable it. I'm running a Windows 7 box.

Any ideas out there? (stupid computers!!!)

Is Unassociated Metadata only for markers?

I recently tried using the Unassociated Metadata panel to transfer metadata from proxies to the original clips, and the only thing that's copying is the subclip/marker data. Am I doing something wrong here?

Proxies are MXF (XMP sidecar), and original files are MOV.

Hi all

I have been trying to simply transcode on ingest some Canon C100 25pf footage and there doesn't seem to be an option to interpolate the footage in Adobe prelude, thus when you covert the file, it will see it as an interlaced file and transcode upper field first?

Without using clip wrap first or straight into Premiere (which can interpolate correctly once told to do so) how can this be done?

I want to use prelude to make my ProRes files

Ingesting Media - naming presets

I am trying to setup a naming preset in Adobe Prelude and I want to have the date formatted as YYYY-MM-DD_Created but there is no option for that. When I go to a preset and try to edit it directly nothing I try gets me to having it appear in prelude in that format. I tried:

I was wondering if it's possible to do this as when I select a folder for ingest, and it says, for instance, "Card A6 - 3 items" and I select the rename checkbox... It doesn't reflect the new name either on disc or in premiere, as it does if I do each clip individually... Is this possible?

Hi everyone,

My company and I are trying to implement Prelude into our workflow. Primarily, we shoot w/ a Red Epic and currently are experimenting w/ batch transcoding camera rolls through Prelude using the Adobe Media Encoder dynamic link.

The question I have is this: can Media Encoder take advantage of our current G5 tower's Red Rocket card to speed up the transcoding process, and if so, how do I select it (i.e., if available, where in Prelude/Media Encoder's interface can I find this feature?)

I know Red Rocket acceleration is possible in Premiere (and that the Red Rocket card can work w/ only one program at a time)--but what about batch transcoding R3D's in Prelude through Media Encoder. I'd prefer to not use RED-CINE X as we're interested in using all of the XMP metadata features in Prelude.

For reference, the machine I'm running is the following:

MAC OS X Version 10.9.4

Processor: 2X2.26 Ghz Quad--Core Xeon

Memory: 32 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3

Mac Pro Era Early 2009

Red Rocket Card (firmware 1.1.17.3)

Adobe Creative Suite CC 2014

Prelude feature request: Add codecs?

So I noticed that Prelude seems to have issues with the following on Ingest mode:

1) Garden variety .mp4's can be scanned visually, but that there is no audio playback as there is with DSLR footage.

2) The .avi format can be read/scrubbed by Prelude in Windows (without sound), but in OSX it appears as an icon only without the ability to scrub.

3) Streaming formats like .flv or .mkv are not recognized at all.

Is there now, or can there be in future, the ability to add support for these formats?

Hi All,

I'm looking to ingest hundreds of hours of video footage using Adobe Prelude and plan on adding metadata to each clip for easy searching latter in the workflow. Once the project is complete the client is in need of an excel document that contains each clip with all of the metadata we added during the ingest step of the workflow and where the clip is located on the hard drives that we have used. Are there any automated steps to do this or is there an easy export to Excel option that I'm missing?

Syncing bins to hdd

Is there way to syck the bins that i have created in Prelude to my hdd? I like to sort all my files by type of footage so that its easy lo locate a clip if I need the raw clip for something whit out opening a program.
I have only manage to sort clips in Prelude and all the footage is still all in one bin on my hdd.

AVCHD User Clip Name Recognition in Prelude

I am shooting on a Panasonic Ag-af100 and I have used the P2 Viewer Plus app to load custom metadata onto the camera. I set a name in the "User Clip Name" field.

I can see this custom name when previewing the AVCHD file in Quicktime Player, but Prelude CS6 reverts to the numbering beginning at 00001.

Is it possible for Prelude to use the customized name field in the transcoding/copying process?

Prelude frustrating to use for large projects

Rather than improving my workflow, Prelude is frustrating to use and I'd currently rather ingest media directly into Premiere.

1) It sometimes takes over a minute for Prelude to become responsive after switching back focus from another application (ie Premiere). I can't afford to sit at my computer for a minute while Prelude polls all the media slowly. This was happening with media on a local drive and is getting worse with media on external drives. This media polling needs to be faster.

2) When sending media from Prelude to Premiere, Premiere creates duplicates bins. It seems the Prelude to Premiere workflow is only intended to be used once when all media for a project has been created and is ready to ingest all at once. If I send media in two separate sessions from Prelude to Premiere, Premiere creates duplicate bins and I'm forced to manually merge all the bins or have a very confusing bin structure in my Premiere project.

3) Prelude seems to recreate peak files for media when I load a project. This reduces it's performance (and my computer's performance dramatically) when it's constantly generating peak files. Maybe Prelude just never generates all the peak files upon ingest and decides to do the rest of them the next time you load the Prelude project? Regardless, something is wonky with peak file generation.

4) 'Sending' media from Prelude to Premiere takes too long and there is no status bar.... just an unresponsive Prelude and Premiere application. Why does sending meta data for 60 media files take 30 seconds for a powerful computer to process? Something seems very inefficient and this will only get worse as the media for our project grows.

Has anyone at Adobe tested Prelude with feature film projects with lots of Red r3d media?

We have a house clock feeding TC to all of our decks. I'd love to just regen from the last deck into the iPad. Is a cable all we'd need? I noted that in the app, only TC Buddy and and Ambient are supported, but I didn't know whether one of those selections would work with LTC coming from another source. I don't want to waste time or money if this won't work.

Prelude- Printing Markers (Sub clips) for a paper edit

Just started using Prelude and have sub clipped some material.

I want to print these markers out so I have a break down of what is on the reel as a paper copy for my edit

The problem is when I export this on a MacBook into Numbers the data is all unformatted and not much use, it's all over the place. I've tried exporting individually as well

Any ideas on how I can get this info into a readable form ?

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help with this. I have a project that is shot using time of day time code and a shot list is given to me based on that. I want to ingest based on that as I don't have time to hover scrub through every shot but I can't see that timecode when I open the ingest window. Am I missing something or doesn't Prelude display that original timecode?

Importing issue with Prelude/AME

I usually use three cams: GH4 (MOV) and AF100 & HMC150 (AVCHD). I primarily shoot 1080p23.98 but occasionally shoot 1080p59.94 for slomo. I prefer to transcode to ProRes because I find editing much faster, and sometimes I need to pass on footage to other editors who are using FCP7. problem is, I can't seem to setup a ProRes preset in AME that simply keeps frame rate "same as original" when setting up ingest & transcode in Prelude/AME. to complicate things further, with the GH4 the MOV files are only seen in the Prelude ingest window as "File Directory" so I'm not even able to show a frame rate column and sort the clips that way to determine the transcode setting relative to each clip. I also have no way of transcoding my GoPro 720p119.88 footage to ProRes as the highest frame rate option is 59.94. is there a way to enable "match source frame rate" in AME somehow that I am missing? maybe I should just file a feature request?

Whenever I transcode .MTS files in Prelude (and Prelude then uses Media Encoder) the resulting ProRes 422 files have audio that skips around, is out of sync, and eventually becomes entirely non-existent. It only happens in Prelude/Media Encoder too. I've tried encoding using Final Cut Pro 7 and iFFMpeg and both those work just fine. I'd really like to use Prelude though if possible. Has anyone experienced this strange behavior?

Can Prelude transcode 4k footage to Prores on my mac? (from Canon 1D C)

I'm about to go on a shoot and preparing to shoot in 4k. From my understanding, the files will have to be transcoded into a useable format (knowledge not much beyond info from this article: Canon 1D C Internal 4K Workflow | Hurlbut Visuals). The article says I could buy the $50 software from the Mac store, but since I already pay for CC membership and there are so many apps that I haven't/don't know how to use...I was wondering if Prelude is able to transcode the 4k footage?

Prelude CC 2014: No audio preview in Ingest window?

Recently switched from FCP to CC 2014 in a college media lab environment with a shared server space. I'm in the process of creating a media management workflow for students to use this fall. I would like them to use Prelude to preview, transcode and rename their footage. I would also like them to only ingest footage that they plan on using, due to the shared server space. So it would be helpful if they could hear audio while scrubbing through clips in the Ingest window. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get audio to play in that window. The audio is there after ingested though.

Is there a setting that controls audio in the Ingest window? Or will they just have to ingest and go through their audio after ingested?
