adding custom classes and id's

Hello,

I am not sure if this is supported but it would be great if we could say, select an element on our website and have an option to attach some html or be able to change the class or id of an element. I want to add my own scroll bars on some content. I could just go into the code and change it but if I wanted to update my site it would overwrite those code changes right?
