Hi

I don't see anything wrong with you system info.

Just to check though - are you trying to use oil paint on an RGB 8 or 16 bit file?

What do you see - is it greyed or are you getting an error?

A RGB 8 bit file is what I typically work with in Photoshop when I try and apply the oil paint. As for what I see, initially when I boot up Photoshop and go for the Oil Paint feature it isn't greyed out but when I click on it, the following error appears "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware". It remains not greyed out after that message. However when I got to Preferences/Performance/Advanced Settings the "Use OpenCL" option is greyed out and unable to be clicked.

Aside from trying an alternative driver to your video card I don't. You could try resetting preferences but I doubt it would help here (it is simple to try though).

Photoshop is obviously encountering an error when it tries to use the GPU for oil paint. Sometimes it is worth stepping back a driver or two on your video card just to test.

I hope others may be able to add suggestions.

Thank you for your suggestion but it has appeared to have made no difference - unfortunately the "Use OpenCL" option is still unavailable and so the Oil Paint filter is inaccessible

Thought another thing worth mentioning is that when I go into the NVIDIA Control Panel under Manage 3D Settings/Program Settings/Adobe Photoshop (photoshop.exe) there is no option to select 'High Performance NVIDIA processor' (or something to that effect) as some online discussions suggests should be on

I could be wrong but I don't think you'll have that option with a single GPU

Well the annoying thing is I initially had Oil Paint working for a couple of weeks but now it doesn't. It does the annoying thing where the filter isn't grey but when you click on it, it comes up with "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver"

Nope. What I ended up doing is downloading a free program that lets you apply lots of different paint filters. Ridiculous to have to do that when we pay for Photoshop! But I was happy with the outcome from the free program.

May I ask what program you used to get the different paint filters?
