External hard drive for backup

Hi guys, I am looking for a reliable external 3.5' drive with good speeds for backup media and occasional editing from.

Reading through Amazon I get hundred of different opinions. Is there a hidden champion?

I use an external Startech USB3 dock to be able to have multiple backup drives in a box

I also use one of the of the Startech devices to access my pile of old data on various drives   They also have eSATA interfaces

If you then want a high reliability drives take a look at Enterprise drives like this Seagate model they typically are designed for 24 x 7 service with 5-year life time

I've used WD My Book, and Seagate Expansion USB externals.  Two of the My Book drives died, but I was able access the data by removing the drive from the case and removing the USB3 interface, and connecting directly to a SATA port.  A third WD My Book was unrecoverable — I don't buy them any more, and don't trust them for back up. To date, I've had no issues with the Seagate drives.  The WD My Books typically managed 120Mbs continuous, but the Seagate Expansion drives are noticeably faster at around 180Mbs continuous.  I use them for back up and no essential files, but I have also exported to them from PremPro.

Looks very promising. With a raid 1 feature on two hard drives. Personally, I'd like to step away from standard solutions like wd or seagate. Anyone used one is these?
