A PSD file is a Proprietary Adobe file format. It has been since PS came out and or once PS started allowing layers, as far as I know.

Do you mean PDF files. You are posting in the Acrobat Reader forum and PSD files are used by Adobe Photoshop, not, to my knowledge, for Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
I'm not sure what you mean by Adobe Files. Both PSD and PDF will show up as Adobe files because Adobe is the company that first started using those file formats.
Can you show us a screen shot of the icon you are talking about?
Even if they show up as Acrobat files you can still open them with Photoshop by Right Clicking on the file and select Open with then browse to Photoshop.exe to open them with.
You can also change the association of the PSD file extension back to PS if for some reason it has changed.
If you don't know how to do that I suggest a Goggle search on the topic or contact someone you know that knows how to do it.

Let me also ask what type of computer you are using, Windows or Mac, and what email program are you using to receive these emails with the PSD file attached.
There was a problem with MS Outlook changing file types or extensions, or some such thing, in the guise of Security.

Hi ACP, Thanks for the helpful explanations. I am sales so not really technical and may be a little lost here.
What it is, is that I must have accidentally set adobe reader as default app for opening PSD files. So the PSD files that I receive or have in my folders are all now shown as "adobe acrobat document". I want to reverse this default setting so PSD does not default to adobe. Please see below.

OK then go into the File Association system of Windows and change it to Photoshop.
Goggle "Change default file association in Windows" for instructions.
