type tool typing in reverse

Lately when using the type tool I will type a few characters (left to right) and then the cursor will jump to before the first character and start typing right to left. I have tried the reset tools solution to no effect. Any ideas why this has suddenly started happening?

Look in the Type menu, and under Language Options, be sure Default Features is checked.

Reset the Character and Paragraph Panels from the their panel menus.

If that does not work, Reset Preferences.
