Re-activate my Lightroom Classic 6 ??

I have used L/R classic a my primary photo editor for years and have faithfully installed versions 3 to 6 on my laptop with no issues. Now it has disabled most of my functionality and refuses to recognize my legally purchased software serial numbers. I'm completely happy to use L/R as a stand-alone package on my laptop so why has it decided I need to rent it all over again? I never asked for a Lightroom CC trial but now it has decided that I need to subscribe to one or else I'm locked out. Is there a way to get back and continue to use my software without the monthly subscription?
