Photoshop Question

When I open a photo to edit it, I can see it in the tray but it isn't showing on my workspace.  Can you tell me why and how to fix it?  I've updated Photoshop & searched the troubleshooting section but can't for the life of me, figure out why this is happening.  Thanks!
