CC2018 automating Text Frame hight and width not working?

Updating to CC2018 and after converting existing books suddenly the automatic text frame hight and width adjustment in old and new text boxes is no longer working. When I try to set it in objects all existing text disappears or indesign crashes. Who can help?

Did you try to clean both your InDesign cache and preferences?Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences

Does the same setting work on a newly created document in InDesign CC 2018?
