I have used Lightroom since LR3, later upgraded to 5. When LR could not open RAWs from my new Sony, I was advised to go for 6.14. This installed, but did not solve.
Next support person suggested LR7, which I now also have. It works well.
But contacting Adobe to sort out my different plans, seems completely impossible. Endless menus, phone transfers that are med with "sorry, this number not available from your country", waiting line for chat exceeding 30 minutes etc.
Do they believe in an everlasting top spot, not realising this attitude or ineptness chases customers away?
That camera model is supported in both LR 6.14 and Classic 7.1. Note that ARQ files are NOT supported in either version of LR....at least not yet.

They probably just expect users to supply enough information to allow them to diagnose the problem?

Which Sony camera model exactly?
This installed, but did not solve.
We need more information to accurately diagnose the issue. If you've correctly installed the version of Lightroom required to support your camera and Raw files will still not open then something else is afoot.
Please tell us what issue you are now facing given that you believe LR 6.14 is correctly installed.

Thank you, haven't been doing those yet.
My problem is I installed LR 6.14 but couldn't make it handle Sony's ARWs.
Then installed LR7, which does. I am fine with one version. Can I safely
uninstall LR5 and 6 and be sure I'm charged for neither?

LR 5 and 6 are perpetual licensed products. If you didn't purchase and already pay for the product then you've got nothing to lose. You can safely uninstall both LR 5 & 6 as long as your previous LR catalog(s) converted properly in LR 7 and you are happy with what you see.
