Unable to copy/paste from Illustrator to XD (simple vector shapes)

I have tried exporting svg, copy and paste, but the only items I can import into XD (beta for Windows) is png, jpeg, etc. Why can I not get a simple vector shape in there?

Copy and paste from Illustrator is still coming as a part of our work to bring existing features on the Mac to Windows! You can upvote the feature in UserVoice to get updates on it.

I can copy and paste sometimes from AI to XD - why?

Why do some elements copy and paste from AI to XD without issue and some will not?!

I can't find anything online - if I group or ungroup the items it makes no difference.

What is going on?
