Hello. I've been having issues importing images from my 5d to my laptop. I bought a card reader and the sd card is in there, but when I click import- and select the device, most of the images are greyed out, and it says there is a duplicate copy of these in the catalogue already. I am unable to import them. However, when I go to my library, none of these images are present. Why is this happening and how do I fix it???

Using your operating system to view the location that you are trying to imported 'TO', can you view/see the files/images?

I learned long ago (been a Lr user since day one) to not import from camera or card.

I use the operating system to copy the files to a working location on my computer drive system.

Then I use Lr to import using COPY (never MOVE)

Now I have the files in 3 locations in case a problem arrises.

Quick attempt at a cure: Use the OS to copy files to folder on Desktop.

Rename the files.

Use LR Import from those renamed, new location, files.
