hi, I have a serious problem here... I saved a file as PSD ,then delet all the layers and was doing another stuff on the sheet( the reason I did this is because I wanted the same page size and was lazy to enter the size:| )after I finished, I saved the file to another name. but, I found that the first file that i saved manually , is replaced by an autosave file on my work procedure on the second file. I know this happend because I was working with the sama names, but is there any way that I can restore my first file that I saved to what I manually saved?:( I didnt know this whould happend... adobe shouldnt autosave on the manually saved files...:( pleaseeeeeeeeee help me, what can I do here?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but a Google search for this same problem kept bringing me here. Not sure if this is a new feature or not but I accidentally did the same thing. I opened up a file to use the layout, re-did a whole new ad and then in a hurry, two hours later I pushed the (command+s) button and to my dismay, saved over the entire original file. Then I opened up the history panel from the windows drop down and noticed at the top of the history panel there was a version of the file,

That has nothing to do with the autorecovery files, because they're not saved in the same place as your original document.

There is no autosave in Photoshop that would save over your file.

If you have the file still open, you can save it to another filename.

If you have backup software, or version control software, you can recover it.

But in general you aren't going to recover a file you accidentally saved over.

Thanks for the reply chris, But I didn't accidentally saved over!( dunno why adobe forum changed my topic!) I saved the file first under the name" page 13" then continue working on it , after finished, I saved it under the name "page 14". but the second file was not the completion of the first one! I need both files.. but I found that photoshop changed the contents of what I saved as the page 13, to the work procedure after I saved! but I want the file goes back to what I saved manually... what should I do? ( and I disn't set any recovery backup for my Pc!:( )

If you pressed "save" it will save over the file,  if you use "save as" it will save to what you call it.  Sounds like you pressed save as that is only way PS will overwrite the file.  You can not recover from this unless you have another copy somewhere.

Then I opened up the history panel from the windows drop down and noticed at the top of the history panel there was a version of the file, as it was, when I opened it. So I saved the file as a different name, crossed my fingers and pushed the little button at the top of the history actions next to the thumbnail of the original file. And BAM! it restored the file back to it's original glory it was in, right when I opened it. Re-saved the original and was able to keep both files. Yay, win for me!

Thank you Kilo!! You just saved me from a huge headache! When I had realized my screw up I kept undoing hoping to get back to my original but it only saves so many changes and I thought I was in big trouble. But no matter what it saves the original. So good to know!

If you have Time Machine, you can use that to go back to an earlier version. Otherwise, no.

This might help someone.

I recently saved over a Photoshop .psd file by mistake but was able to recover it in Windows 10, even after closing it. I opened windows file manager and navigated to where the file was saved. Then right clicked on the new saved version and selected "Version history". I picked a version from before I had saved over it. Then, I clicked on the three vertical dots to the right and selected the "Restore" option.

Kilo's solution didn't work for me, as the only things shown were changes I had made to document.

Should also mention that while doing the above I had the new version of the file open in Photoshop. And once I did the recovery of the overwritten version, I changed the file name in Windows file manager. Then went back to Photoshop and resaved the open new version.
