I thought .pdf files were smaller than the document converted (e.g. Word or Excel).  I have been using a competing converter and the files get larger by a factor of 5 or 10.  Do Adobe Acrobat-converted files get smaller?

You can use Adobe Acrobat to save an optimized or a reduced file size PDF. That may help.

There's absolutely no guarantee that a PDF file will be smaller than the original file it was created from. In fact, it's more likely to be larger as many times it needs to embed in itself the fonts used in it, something other formats don't usually do.
