Move a 3D camera from horizontal to vertical, POI being a CC Sphere-generated object.

I want to move a 3D camera from a position parallel to a POI to above it. At all times, a portion of the sphere will be in view. When using CC Sphere I can only seem to generate a spherical effect, not an actual sphere. Attempts to make it 3D only result making a cylinder.

Perhaps I'm hoping to much from AE, though it seems that I am amazed on a daily basis as to what I discover it can do.

If you are stuck using CC sphere and want to tie a Comp Camera to the sphere you can do it with expressions. I don't have time to write them but you should be able to find them on the net somewhere. If you need to pass 3D layers in front of and behind the CC sphere it will require some creative use of masking and or track mattes but it can be done. It's how we did it in the old days.

It's coincidental that you suggest that. It is precisely what I want to do. At the moment, I am going to crack open Blender to generate a 3D model and see how far it takes me. I'm hoping to be able to quickly return to the somewhat more familiar waters of AE.

Unfortunately CC Sphere doesn't produce a true 3D sphere that reacts to a camera, just a flat image of a 3D sphere on a 2D plane.  CC Cylinder, on the other hand, responds to cameras.  I'm not sure why they haven't matched that camera functionality in CC Sphere.

You can create true 3D spheres in a number of third party tools:

• Already built into AE, you can create your sphere in Cinema 4D Lite, then import to AE.
• Videocopilot's Element 3D plugin
• Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator plugin
• Boris Sphere plugin
