I'm trying to install Flash Player on a computer, but it fails again and again. This is not a problem with the new installer; previous ActiveX versions doesn't work either. I have tried both online and offline installer. NPAPI and PPAPI works fine.

The computer that fails is a virtual Windows Server 2012 R2 used for terminal services.

The offline installer gives the following error: "Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action NewCustomAction1, location: ...\InstallAX_24_0_0_..."

The online installer gives the following error at approximately the same time during the installation phase: "Failed to register"

I have tried the Adobe uninstaller and all the manual steps beneath it: Uninstall Flash Player for Windows

I have tried msizap on all GUID's listed here, from most recent and back to 18.0.0.160: MSI GUID list for Flash Player

I have tried to reset the registry permissions here (I am aware of the OS descrepency): Troubleshoot Flash Player install issues related to Windows registry permissions

I also manually removed the keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Macromedia (which only contained Flash entries) to no avail.

Hi,

As of Windows 8, and Server 2012, Microsoft embeds Flash Player in IE (and Edge in Win10) and all Flash Player for IE/Edge updates are released by Microsoft via Windows Update.  The ActiveX MSI installer should not run at all on Sever 2012.  This is a known bug and we are working on a fix.

hello,

if the ActiveX MSI installer  was installed because we didn't know in windows 2012R2 has it embedded, then we uninstalled it.

but the flash folder with .exe still exist under the macromed folder. can we safely deleted it?

What files remain in the Macromed folder?  Please post a screenshot of the Macromed folder in question.  To take and post a screenshot see https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7043#jive_content_id_How_do_I_attach_a_screenshot

Please don't post the same issue to multiple locations.  It results in forked conversation and related comments existing in one discussion topic, but not another, which results to confusion.  You already have a discussion topic on this issue at Re: the link for flash player with active X patch? and are being assisted there.   I'm locking this discussion topic.

Respectfully, " ...we are working on a fix." is NOT a solution. Has there been any update on this issue - any progress made - any suggestions for a temporary work around?

correct, "we are working on a fix" is not a solution, it's just that "we are working on a fix" as of the time my comment was posted.

I've been informed this bug is fixed in yesterday's release.  FP 24.0.0.221 ActiveX MSI will not run on Server 2012.

What is 'this issue'?  Flash Player ActiveX Control installer is not supposed to run on Server 2012 since Microsoft embeds Flash Player ActiveX Control for IE in Server 2012.  The expected behaviour is that the installer will fail to run with the message:

Your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser includes the latest version of Flash Player built-in.  Windows Update will inform you wen new versions of the Flash Player are available.

If you are observing different behaviour please provide the following:

  • name of installer file being used
  • behaviour being observed
  • screenshot of the error, if any
