I tried every option place linked, embedded I even opened it as a separate file the result was the same.

I restarted photoshop and then it worked normal.

Turned off (restart) on (restart) YEA!  - seems to reset something - now have both ping and extensions both working properly

I am having this problem too. I get the same type of image to when trying to open any png from a client or coworker. The "fixes" above don't help. Is this an Adobe problem? Another problem I also noticed the pen tool won't work if the canvas is rotated.
