Have you tried disabling GPU acceleration? Let us know if that makes a difference.
Go to:
Lightroom >> Preferences >> Performance (tab) on Mac OS
Uncheck the box āUse Graphics Processorā
Then click OK

Please be specific. Tell us the exact version NUMBER of your software. We don't want words, we need the version NUMBER.
Also, is there a specific task in Lightroom that you are performing when Lightroom shuts down? Or is it relatively at random times?

Sorry to be thick - product downloaded last July 2017 under CC photography plan order No ADD001721978UK. It has shut down whilst I am working on photos and other times has shut down whilst minimised.
Thanks
Malcolm

Malcolm, I would suggest you launch Creative Cloud. Then go to the apps tab to check for updates to LR Classic (see image below)
There was a recent February release v7.2 and updating may fix the problem.

You may have ordered it in July, but we need to know the currently installed version number. Start Lightroom, go to Help->System Info, and report the version number shown there in the first line of the inside box. Do not copy and paste the entire System Info box into your reply.

Certainly, you should update to the latest version of LR which is Lightroom Classic CC version 7.2. Since you have a Creative Cloud license, the upgrade is free for you.

You are running the very first release of LR 2015/6 2015/6 .(DOT)0(Zero).
There has been 14+ updates to LR 2015/6 to 2015.14/6.14 and a newer version LR C CC V7 and that is up to V7.2.
So open, and maybe at that time Update, the Creative Cloud Desktop App and if the CC DTA needs to be updated let that finish then install the update for LR.
Restarting your system in-between updating the CC DTA and installing the LR update is advisable.

What version of OS X is installed on your Mac Pro.
From what year is your Mac Pro? Is it one of the Trash Can Mac Pro's or a tower case?
Have you cleaned out the dust in your Mac Pro lately?
What you describe sounds like a hardware or heat problem.
