Need help recovering files from previous computer

Hello, I just purchased a new computer and can't recover my all my old lightroom files and folders. I did back up my files before disconnecting the old computer and stored them on an external hard drive. When I tried to click on the most recent saved back up, I got an error message. Can anyone help me?

Back up of what?

The LR catalog file?

Of your images?

You shouldn't need to access a backup of the catalog file as you should have the original.

Do you still have the old computer and are all the files still on that old computer?
