I have a  maxed out 27 inch iMac with tons of scratch disk space but when I use the select and Refine Mask tool to mask out people on a white background I often get a spinning wheel that lasts for minutes.

I have also reset the Drawing mode to "Normal" and set the Cache back to 4 from 6.

What is going on with PS 2018CC ? This is not workable.

Hi JohnnyTooGood , I think the problem is with painting on huge files over 4 gigabytes. Phertotoshop really boggs down when files exceed a certain size.

Is this an answer to the above question? The select and refine mask is bloody terrible in PSCC, its poor software development! I read people with $8500.00nz iMac Pro's having the same issues. When are they going to fix this problem!

This problem happens with many of the brushes as well. Photoshop slows way down with several functions once you pass the 4 gig threshold. I have talk with post production artist Denis Dunbar who works on movie posters and he often spits large images into parts as  a work around. It is a pain and forces most people to work in 8 bits instead of 16 bits.
