Lightroom 5.7.1 won't stay connected to my camera

I am trying to connect my camera to Lightroom so I can shoot tethered. When I start tethered shooting the regular window pops up where you can see your camera settings and stuff, it connects to my camera for like a second and then disconnects and then repeats a bunch of times. How do I get it to connect and stay connected?

It is a Canon EOS Rebel T6

According to the published list of cameras that are supported for tethered shooting, you need at least Lightroom 6 .6 to have support for that camera model.
