Photoshop CC2018 takes 40 secs to load

Hi.

I just installed Photoshop CC 2018 and it takes an age to load up. I reinstalled 2017 and it takes 9 secs to load. 2018 takes 40 secs - longer if I am in Lightroom and use 'edit in' - over a minute to get it loaded and ready to use. 2017 takes about 12 secs.

Neither is particularly speedy - anyone have this issue ? Any solutions ?

MY PC is very high spec - Asus Rampage VI, 500GB M.2 SSD with the Opsys and Apps loaded, I9 7900 processor, liquid cooled and overclocked to 4.5GHz, Asus Strix 1070 GTX Graphics card, and 64GB of fast RAM. Surely it should be better than this ??? I am using Windows 10 Pro 64 - all up to date with latest drivers ( including graphics card from NVidia ).

Tried disabling Graphics acceleration and it made no difference. Also selected an alternative scratch disc and no change there either.

Other apps load almost instantly. ( Proshow, Office etc )

Any ideas, suggestions gratefully received.

40 seconds seems like a long time. How long it take for Photoshop to load and inialize varies it depends on many factors. Processor speed, Storage speed, RAM seed Photoshop version and Photoshop add ons. I just timed CC 2018 on me machine. Did two test. I removed all may add ons and removed all my Photoshop User ID CC 2018 data. I started CC 2018 and let it build all new default user id data foe cc 2018 closed down Photoshop. I started a stopwatch and cc 2018 it took 16.612sec for it to be up and ready. I closed CC 2018 and deleted all the new user id date for CC 2018. I then restored my Old user id data. Added my Photoshop Add-ons back into my Photoshop install Stated a stopwatch and CC 2018 This time it took 23.839sec for Photoshop to be up and ready. 44% longer than without add-ons. About half the time it takes your machine which is a much faster machine than mine. My machine is only a 2GHZ machine and my high speed Ram is clocked slower because of my processors slower clock speed. I could see CC 2018 with no add-ons on your machine could take as little as 7sec to start on your. 40 sec would be 573% slower. I'm posting my CC 2018 System Info compare your to it see if you see anything odd in yours.

Hi.

Just downloaded the update for CC 2018 and guess what ? Now takes 10 secs to load up rather than 40 + .Still not that speedy but definitely faster.

However, it still takes about a minute to load up an image from the 'edit in' from Lightroom ( admittedly, 30GB files ). Given the spec of my PC, I would have expected a faster load up.....

If the image is one of your Camera RAW file from Lightroom it must go through Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in first so ACR can apply your Lightromm raw conversion adjustments to your cameras raw data and convert it into a RGB Image that opens in Photoshop. So Photoshop needs to initialize then it need to use the Adobe Camer RAW plug-in ACR to open your RAW file. So there is an added path length that must be executed before you will have your Image document in Photoshop. How long it takes to Convert your RAW file mat depend on How many adjustments your made in Lightroom. RAW file are not RGB Images and RAW DATA is not changed in RAW file Adjustment metadata is added one way or an other.

If you really mean 30 gigabytes that's a huge monster of a file and a minute sounds just fine.

There are lots of variables here that you need to break down.

Raw file or rendered RGB? The latter goes faster because it doesn't need to apply your adjustments through ACR.
If you start Photoshop "warm" it goes much faster than a cold start (first launch), since Windows will already have a lot of it in cache and ready to go.
If Photoshop is already open when launching from Lightroom it goes even faster - but even so, it spends a few seconds initializing the "edit in" script.

The point is your timings will vary a lot according to which scenario.

Since Lightroom does not support layers I think the only way lightroon could produce a 30GB image file would be stitching image into a stitched panorama dgn file. I do not know for sure for I do not use Lightroom. For IMO Lightroom does not support layers so it really is not compatible with Photoshop therefore I do not use lightroom.

I thought about that, but a 30 GB raw file is orders of magnitude worse than a 30 GB RGB file. That's...big doesn't even begin to describe it. That's Godzilla. How many D800 images - already pretty big - would I have to stitch to get there? We're talking 50 to 100.

Hi Everyone - Duh !!!

I did, of course, mean 30 MEGA bytes ! Sorry for the confusion - it was late.....I do have a few stitched landscapes at about 500Mb and they take a long time to load....unsurprisingly.

Since the last update ( this week ) , Photoshop now loads in about 9 secs - much better and about the same as CC2017. However, when I select, 'Edit in Photoshop CC2018' from Lightroom, it takes over a minute to load up PS and the image. This adds considerable time to my workflow if I need Photoshop. Is this typical ? My RAW files are in 30-50MB range.
