Adjustments stopped working

I am using, windows 10, ps cc v 2018 v19.0

Whenever I try to make an adjustment to a layer, all I get is the Properties (document Properties) panel , so I cant make any adjustments.

Thank you for your replies, it finally sorted itself out after my second reset of prefs.
