SplitStory Script- Path Type vs Text Frame error

Hi

I have been working on larger catalogs with many type associations. One of the issue i came across is i can use splitstory script to unlink text frames, but will not split line/path type because it is not considered a text frame. Is there a way we can modify the script so it identifies the "line/path type" text content so it breaks link between the text frame and line/path type? My projects do contain a variety of text boxes and line type. Just curious if there is a solution out there i might not know about.... any suggestions?

Andrew

Exactly. The order doesn't matter. You don't need to start selecting the

last.

If you want, I have another code that split all text frames in the page or

the selected ones. But this one is not available for free. If you want,

just contact me (lf@corullon.com.br).

Hi Andrew: This is a scripting question, so I moved it to the InDesign Scripting forum for you.

Hi Andrew,

I guess with "line type" you mean text on path…

And you want to split text containers that could be text frames or text on path items.

Hm…
Maybe try an ExtendScript (JavaScript) script by lf.corullon :

Re: Break threading but leave text in place

If I remember right the script file is attached to a PDF describing the script's action and how to install and run it.

First you have to unpack the rar-file that is linked to in this other thread.

Please test it and come back to report if all went ok with it.

Regards,
Uwe

Hi

I have the same script which works well for text frames... this is the screen shot of the error i received when trying to break text on a path, and my guess is maybe there is no script for this type of type on a path?

Great! it did break the thread... to clarify the end result, it breaks each thread at a time from the last thread? Not all at once, correct? Say i have five thread linked, select the last thread, run the script, the last thread is broken, still have four thread link etc...

Thanks

And another idea ( not using a script ).

Just select the range of text paths you want to see still threaded and duplicate the selection.

Do that two or more times with different ranges. Then remove all text containers of the original story.

Still could not make it work... what if we identify the "object" of line type and add to formula, just like "TextFrame", maybe it could identify the case "name" that the script is looking for to break the thread. I just don't know how InDesign identifies/or names the Line type...

Appreciate your help...
