Saving file as PSD

I work on a raw file in Lightroom and then move it to Photoshop CC for further processing.  After processing in Photoshop I flatten my file and press Control-S to save.  In previous versions, it always saved as a PSD, now it is saving as a TIFF file.  The only way I can save as a PSD to to use SaveAS and change the format to PSD.  Am I missing some setting I should have changed?  Thanks, in advance fro any help.

This part

"In LR I went to "Edit... Preferences"  On the External Editing tab I had  "File Format" set to TIFF.  Why, when and how I made that change I don't remember. Especially the "why" part.

Changing it to PSD solved this."

Thank you so much.  I think this solved the problem.  Much appreciated.  As is the case most of the time, it is always a simple fix.
