When saving PSD files in Photoshop of several layers, it tells me that it's bigger than 2GB, and forces me to save as a TIFF or PSB. Why is this?

.PSD has a limitation of 2GB.  You can choose to use either .TIFF or .PSB.

The other option is to reduce your file size to below 2GB.

You mean, why is it not letting you save as PSD? Because the largest possible PSD is 2GB. Just can't be bigger. PSB is just the same, but allowed to be bigger.

Or you mean, why so big? Please tell us number of layers and image dimensions in pixels.

blockquote, div.yahoo_quoted { margin-left: 0 !important; border-left:1px #715FFA solid !important; padding-left:1ex !important; background-color:white !important; } Thanks for your reply, the issue is that the file is not bigger than 2GB having checked the properties of the Tiff file later. But Photoshop is telling me that it is!

Er...that setting has no relevance for file sizes - it is for Photoshop working memory allocation. It should never be cranked all the way up.

The 2GB restriction in PSD is in the file format specification. It's a hard limit.

It doesn’t mean that the TIFF will be bigger than 2GB. The TIFF size will depend on your choices. It means the PSD would be, so PSD cannot be made. What is the problem you want to solve? What Are you prevented from doing?
