My project has .avi files that I must use in an edit that is due for release ASAP and since I updated, all my .avi files won't playback.

Support, please let me know your solution. As Lemongrab would say, this is unacceptable!

Welp, Adobe support just wrote back to me:

AVI is no longer supported due to Apple dropping support of 32-bit QuickTime moving forward. Supported QuickTime 64-bit files for 12.1 and later are here: https://adobe.ly/2uMMaK3 Sorry for the frustration. Thx, ^KM

Sucks.

If I were you I would go back and finish project in previous version asap.

Then update and figure out why its not working.

Thanks Ann.

I am open to that. But how do I go back a version? And I already saved my project to reflect the update.

This all so unsettling, even After Effects won't support .avi now either.

Avi does not use QT.

Upload a clip for testing.

AVI is no longer supported due to Apple

That doesn't make sense.  AVI is a Windows format.  Apple has nothing to do with it.

Testing confirms that AVI export and import are both still functioning.

All I know is that my AVI formats are not working in Premiere or After Effects and Adobe Support said they no longer support AVI with the new update. I would love for this not to be the case...

The guys in India aren't always the most reliable.

The AVI format still works fine.  Your codec could be an issue.  What are you using?

exactly the same problem here (with many others).

AVI ist not working anymore in 12.1

downgraded to 12.0.1 ...everthing is fine.

And yes, as I agreed in other threads too, it is not a quitcktime codec and therefor something else must be the major problem.

All AVI embedded codecs with Open-DML named are affected. Mine come from a sony A7S2 app.

AVI itself , as for example is playable as well through the QT-player.

paying 700.-bucks a year is not an option for now transcoding everything with an additional software for extra money .

What I have payed for the MediaEncoder ??

12.1 i the worst terrible untested Update I've seen in many years ...and I#ve seen many of them in 25 years avid and adobe support and prodictions.

The onlyy way for now......going back to 12.0.1 and wait until adobe apologizes and is releasing a new clean tested and proven version.

If you are on a Mac then the info is correct.

Avi's on a Mac need QT.

There are no issues on Windows.

LATEST

megacinn,

Win 10, older i7 PC.

PR 2018.1.0 imports AVI Open DML files.

And just checked; also work in PR 2017.1.2/1.4.

What OS are you?

Can you post a screenshot of the mediainfo tree view of one of the files?

Edit: See Ann's response. So a Mac only issue? Can an AVI contain QT codecs?
