Lightroom crashes during export

I can't get through 3-4 images before it crashes.  I can't restart it when it does either, I have to reboot my entire system.  I've tried disabling the graphics processing, and that doesn't help.

I'm exporting sony a99 raw files as 2048 pixels long jpegs.

macOS Sierra 10.13.4

4.2GHz i7

32gb ram

Radeon Pro 580 8192 mb

This is my brand new work machine with a fresh install of lightroom - I can't be working like this.  I've only ever had problems with lightroom hogging up all the memory on my laptop, which is understandable.  But this is ridiculous.

I've actually narrowed it down to scrolling through images in the develop tray.

Reverting to 7.0 seems to have fixed the issue.  Knock on wood.
