Merge (difference) photos

Hello, can I merge two photos on Photoshop Elements and then show 'difference', i.e. two or three colours (layers) together? I do not mean to change the transparency of each layer. I can do it for sure in 'normal' Photoshop. Thank you.

Create a new file (file>new>blank file) the size of your paper at the  resolution you want, then copy paste your pictures into it and use the Move tool to position them.

I think that I am missing something here. What do you mean by "in the other?" Place an object from picture A into picture B?
