Hi,

Now that the new naming scheme for localization files in LR has broken Keyboard Tamer, you can use the following trick in order to continue using KT (example for the french language) :

1. In C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\Resources\fr, make a copy of TranslatedStrings_Lr_fr_FR.txt and rename it to TranslatedStrings.txt. Both files can co-exist since LR now totally ignores TranslatedStrings.txt.

2. In LR, launch Keyboard Tamer and make all the changes you want. Apply them and exit LR.

3. Replace the contents of TranslatedStrings_Lr_fr_FR.txt with the contents of TranslatedStrings.txt.

4. Re-launch LR and that's it.

For the English language, the procedure is slightly different since TranslatedStrings_Lr_en_US.txt doesn't exist by default :

1. Launch Keyboard Tamer in LR, make your changes and Apply. This will create a TranslatedStrings.txt file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\Resources\en.

2. Exit LR.

3. In C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\Resources\en make a copy of TranslatedStrings.txt and rename it to TranslatedStrings_Lr_en_US.txt.

4. Re-launch LR.

This will not work on the Mac since LR no longer reads the localization file on this platform for the English language (did you say "regression testing" ?).

Thanks for the suggestions, however I can't make changes to a program that will not open, and when I go to the folder you suggest it is empty.

Hi,

1. Do you mean that Keyboard Tamer is not present when using the File | Plugin Manager command ?

2. If it is, did you make sure that the "Path to Lightroom" field is correct ?

3. What version of Lightroom are you running ?

4. On which OS ?

It is there, but the Keyboard Shortcuts twirl down is blank, excepting :

                          Unable to locate mapping file.

If you mean, by "Path to Lightroom", under the Status twirl down there is a heading named Path, as shown below.

Well, since you are using the English language I guess that you need to apply the workaround that I have posted in the thread named ‘Filtering issues with “Show photos in sub folders” option’ that you visited recently :

You could try to create an empty TranslatedStrings.txt file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\Resources\en using Notepad. Relaunch LR and try KT again. Then proceed as described in my post by copying TranslatedStrings.txt to TranslatedStrings_Lr_en_US.txt in the same folder. Relaunch LR and your changes should be taken into account.

This worked fine for another user who had the same problem as you. Note that the path is now different for Lightroom CC Classic.

Merci.   I have no idea what you are suggesting I do.  Are you saying create a file in the utility Notepad, the file is empty or is the file just what I enter as text?  Then I copy it to what, since the folder is empty?  Just the character string, why do I not do that in Word?  And what do I put in the folder, a string of text or do I make a file?   Do I make two documents in Notepad, an application I have never used, don't really see what it is supposed to do, and seems to be left over from the early days of the OS?

So much for shortcuts... and I paid for the license. I got conned.

I'm also having a Problem here! I want to Change the Command for copy settings from (ctrl + shift + c) to (ctrl + c)... It doesnt work with the Keyboard Tamer. On my mac that was no Problem but now i have a Windows Workstation and can't find a way to fix it... the same Problem with paste Settings, would be so much more comfortable when i just can click (ctrl+v) instead of (ctrl + shift + v)

Does anyone can help me?

Michael,

On Windows, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V are reserved system keystrokes for the Copy and Paste operations respectively. All applications use them for this purpose. The Copy and Paste operations in Lightroom are something different. I guess this is why these keystrokes can't be remapped.to the Copy and Paste "settings" in LR.

In Lightroom, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V are used to copy and paste text in text fields. So, they can't be used to copy and paste a block of data containing LR settings. Using the same keys for both types of operations would lead to huge problems.

These are two different operating systems. Although I'm not a MacOS specialist, I don't think that Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V are the default system keys for Copy and Paste (it's rather Command-C and Command-V, I guess). So Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V are "free" and can be assigned in LR to the Copy Settings and Paste Settings tasks.

A MacOS expert could confirm this.

Mac OS uses Cmd in lieu of Ctrl key for copy and paste.

Also, Mac has facility to remap keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences

Hi,

Since LR version 7.3, this workaround is no longer working reliably. Sorry. KT can no longer re-read its own configuration file, probably because the menu/command structure has changed.

This workaround is now obsolete. KT has been updated to work with LR CC Classic.
