Could anyone please tell me if its ok to go into Filezilla and just delete all the old website files from a previous build with different software? Is there a protocol for server clean up? Site is hosted with 1and1
They are showing up in Google search console with errors
Thanks
Normally, you can delete the complete folder, where your site data are placed.
If you aren’t sure and you want to delete all „orphan“ files except the Muse files:
Export your site to your machine (File/Export to HTML …), compare these files to the files on server and delete all files on the server, which are not on your machine.

Simply delete all files manually from 1&1 servers and re-publish your site.

How do Identify which are the muse files to leave please? I'd rather do that than have any down time, the website takes a good hour to upload from scratch.

I have a 3rd party tool for cleaning up orphan files on my remote server called OrFind. It crawls the site and detects all unused files and assets. It also contains a dedicated FTP, SFTP, FSTP client.
