What are these snaps?

I'm still running LR Classic CC 7.2 because of the issues I had when upgraded to 7.3.    When I import now from my compact flash card reader, I see these Macintosh HD@snap... items shown below.  What are they???

They are OS snapshots created by macOS High Sierra as part of the updated backup system. For your purposes they can be ignored, although the fact that Lr, Bridge and a few other apps list them is a PITA.
