"updates..." is grayed out in Mac version of Lightroom 6.0

I bought the perpetual, non-monthly fee version of Lightroom 6.0. I downloaded directly from Adobe. I simultaneously downloaded the PC and Mac version. The PC version updates just fine. I simply go to Help>Updates.... and it downloaded the 6.14 update without issue.

The Mac version, on the other hand, "updates..." is grayed out and non-selectabe. So I downloaded the standalone install patch directly from Adobe (Download Photoshop Lightroom ) but the .dmg file only creates an error message "Updates could not be installed".

Can someone please help me figure out why the Mac update is being so difficult?

Please state the version NUMBER of your MAC operating system.

Did you install the LR 6.0 initial application?

This has to be successfully installed before you can run the install patch.

By initial application, are you referring to the 727 mb MacOS "Application Installers" at middle of this page just above "Updates" (Download Photoshop Lightroom​).

If so, yes, I installed that and it ran just fine. When I try to run the Lightroom 6.14 482 mb patch just below that is when I get the error message.
