Issues with converted project

Hello,

We have an HTML project that was written using RoboHelp 7. Our office recently downloaded a trial version of RH 8 and we tried opening the project with the new version (yes we have backup copies of the project!). Upon opening the project and checking it over, we've noticed odd problems with the color of the hyperlinks changing without selecting them (all of the hyperlinks and bookmarks appear to change to the default purple color in a topic by clicking on another topic and then clicking back to the first topic), and little red square boxes appearing where a Shift/Enter was used.

My concern is that the project had had to be rewritten when we got RoboHelp 7 and converted from RoboHelp 4. At the time, when we first opened the project in RH 7, we found corruption in text and bullets that were gigantic. After trying to correct/resolve these issues without success, we made a decision to recreate the project from scratch.

Can anyone shed some light on what is happening or what we are doing wrong? We've not had this problem with our Webhelp projects.

Thank you,

lslboucher

Welcome to our community, lslboucher

The hyperlink color issue seems to be a simple one. The topic the link points to has been visited and it seems to be simply showing in the link color as such. Have you tried clearing browser history? I believe that action normally restores the link colors as there is no longer a history.

I'm guessing you mean that you are seeing the red boxes in the RoboHelp editor? Or are you seeing these in the final output?

Cheers... Rick

Had you updated RH 7 with 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 and generated fresh? If not, you might want to try that on your backups, then try RH8 again.

Good luck,
Leon

Leon,

No we did not update with 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 but that is a good suggestion. I will try this.

The hyperlinked topics were not visited/selected and yet the color of the links in the starting topic changes. this is what we did:

1. Selected a topic in the TOC.
2. Saw that the hyperlinks and bookmarks were in blue in the topic.
3. Selected another topic in the TOC briefly.
4. Select the original topic again.
5. Saw that all the hyperlinks and bookmarks were purple.

Regarding the red square boxes, this is seen in the editor. I did not check whether they appear in the output but can check.

Red squares in the editor typically represent JavaScript or maybe some other type of code. Try selecting a red box and switching to the HTML view to see if perhaps RH has inserted a script there.

You didn't, by chance, use the output files from the old project, instead of the source files? That'd give you the bad formatting and all the JavaScript red squares.

Good luck,
Leon

Hello,

Many thanks for all of your suggestions and help. Installing 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 resolved both problems.
