Hi, Lightroom 5 works fine but I can't open the latest version of Lightroom Classic, or even Lightroom CC.
I have uninstalled, then re-installed Classic.
Uninstalled then re-installed the entire Adobe suit .
Logged out of Adobe then logged in.
Run Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Running on a late 2013 iMac - High Sierra with plenty of Ram and storage
I have launched from both the Adobe drop down menu and from Applications
The LR icon bounces in the dock for a while before stopping, I never see a splash screen
Is there anything I have missed?
Any thoughts appreciated

Hi purplepin,
Sorry that you're unable to launch Lightroom Classic CC.
Could you please try opening Lightroom in root user account on your MAC, so that we can make sure the issue is not related to account permissions? Refer How to enable the root user on your Mac or change your root password - Apple Support
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Akash

Can we explore another avenue, loathe to tinker with root account ?

You need to enable the root user account, Lightroom will be there in the application list and you can open it from there.
