We are editing a lot of VR in Premiere on Windows 4k x 4k and higher. What is the best performing codec (quality / size / stability) for the online edit with files of this size?
Edit machines are high end, latest i7s, 64gb Ram and GTX1080Tis and SSD Raids.
Thanks for your input,
Hi JosefH,
You might try DNxHR or Cineform. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Kevin

Thank you,
Our VR projects are often at a 30fps timeline, due to our camera which records at 30fps. DNxHR only provides a 29.97 export option. Is there a way around this?
I ran a test comparing a 30fps and 29.97fps export using a different codec and it does result in a few frames of difference with any clips of moderate length, which will cause sound synch problems.
Thanks
PS> Cineform is a nice alternative, but lacks FFmpeg support which is an important part of our pipeline.

Interestingly I notice the Quicktime version of the DNxHR export does include a 30fps, but not MXF.
Is MXF preferred for a windows workflow over .mov?

Hi JosefH,
They should be identical. See if the other version of DNxHR might work for you. Give it a try, anyway.
Thanks,
Kevin
