Phantom Missing Links

Hi All

I have an InDesign document (latest CC2018 running on Windows 10) which is showing two missing links.

When opening the document I receive the 'document contains 2 links to sources that are missing' alert, and there are two links showing as missing in the Links palette.

However, the two links are not showing as being on any page number.

If I right-click on the missing link in the palette and choose 'Go To Link...' nothing happens.

  • I've tried sizing the pasteboard to maximum and checking if there are any elements outside the page area, but there isn't.
  • I checked the Master Pages, but nothing on there.
  • I've tried deleting the pages one at a time, the phantom links remain.
  • I tried saving as IDML, but that didn't work either.
  • I've tried relinking to 'dummy' elements with the same file extension, but this doesn't work and the phantom missing links remain.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Forgot to mention ... if I work through each page in the document, select all elements and delete ... all the other links in the palette eventually disappear, leaving just the two annoying phantoms!!

Hi Vladan

Yes indeed, I read through the entire thread several hours ago!

Unfortunately, we are all PC based so I am unable to run any Apple Scripts on our InDesign.

Thanks
Chris

Hi

Have you tried Laubender's javascript snippet found in the Vladan's suggested link?

Hi All

Many thanks for your replies and suggestions.

I actually solved this by creating a brand new document and copying all the elements from the original to new document.

Thanks again
Chris
