Hello,

I'm a tattoo artist and i just got a xp pen tablet 15.6.

I downloaded some set on deviant art.

All are really nice but i'm looking for a specific brush.

In the tattoo industry we have a technique to do shadow who is called whip shading, or whipping.

Needle_example_page.jpg?v=1519834724

I found some brushes but not for photoshop.

Is there a way to do this in photoshop ?

Thank you !

What is your »Angle« setting (Edit: the one under »Brush Tip Shape«)?

Try these settings.

The shape and style of your brush will obviously be different.

Let us know if you need help creating a dotted brush like what you have pictured.

Start by drawing your circles withe the Ellipse Tool (U)

Then go to Edit > Define Brush Preset

And then give your brush a name

After you have done this, you may now access this brush on any document by clicking on the brush tool or (B)

You can also alter the behavior of this brush in the brushes menu as shown in my first post

Open your doc and select Imge/ Image Size and make sure the image is at the size (height and width) you want and the resolution is at 300 pixels per inch.  If not change that and you will be good to go.Screen Shot 2018-06-13 at 11.40.46 AM.png

Please elaborate on what you want to achieve and how the Brush falls short so far.

Also please post screenshots including the pertinent Panels (Brush Settings, …) to clarify what you are currently working with.

I think you may want to set Angle to »Direction« and – though I am unsure about what you want to achieve really – maybe you should try using a »Fade« instead of pressure sensitivity.

That's exaclty what i want to achieve, but i must do something wrong.

Sans titre-2.jpg

That's the result i have with your settings.

And when i said i tried to tweak the settings before i had the exact same results. It's really weird because like you can see, it seems to not work properly.

There are a lot lot of settings-options in that Panel, so it’s easy to overlook one …

Just be sure to save the Brush once you have a result you like and also save the abr-files from time to time.

Just some advice as my Girlfriend is a tattooist and swears by using an Ipad Pro with Apple pen, she uses an app called ProCreate and having spoken to her about this post, if you can financially afford one it's a great investment that you will never look back on.

Where she used to spend an hour or two on a customers design, she now spends 20 minutes and gets a much better end result, she even edits it onto the skin so they can see the scale and how it'll look afterwards.

She even attached her disposable grip to the pen so it feels a little more like her machine, I'd be happy to give you her Instagram should you have any questions

Yes i'll make myself a little set now

Charles, yes i heard of that.

Actually my tablet is enough and i like it because it's huge.

And also because i used photoshop in the last 10 years almost daily.

What's funny is i also attached a grip to my old tablet pen ahah.

But for sure for a next tablet i will consider buying an Ipad pro !

The first screenshot you posted is a brush being used over and over starting from the same spot. You used your brush in a line, once. I don't have my tablet right now so my screenshot isn't what you want, but I'm showing you It's the painting technique...2018-06-14_17-22-38.jpeg
