Hi Shreya, I'm also having trouble deauthorizing ADE.  It says my password is wrong.  I've tried what you said above:

"Mac: Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

ADE will be deauthorized now.

Now Authorize ADE again."

I can't find the activation.dat file.  When I navigate to Users/Library/Application Support/Adobe/  there is no Digital Editions folder.

Ok, try the following way to access activation.dat:

1. Go-> Go to folder.

Go to folder dialog will appear.

2. Type   ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions

drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

Hope this works !!

Shreya, thank you!  It worked!  I have been trying to get help with this for months now.  I'm thrilled to be able to download books again.

When I try to deauthorize, it does not work .  I get the following message(unable to erase authorization, please try after some time).  And when I try again to deauthorize, it just repeats the same message so all you do is go around and around.

If due to some reason, you are unable to deauthorize ADE, follow the below steps:

Mac: Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

ADE will be deauthorized now.

Now Authorize ADE again.

Windows:

Choose Start > Run.

In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

Your authorization will be deleted.

ADE will be deauthorized now.

Now Authorize ADE again.

I am having the same issue. I can deauthorize and authorize, but when I try to add the book to my Kobo, the following message appears. " Copy Not Allowed, No Permission To Copy"

Sherya - I did what you instructed - it this is what was showing:

Permissions license to unknown

copying on any device

How do I change this so that I can copy the book from my laptop to my Nook 1st Edition?

Thanks

This is an old thread but I am having this problem.  I cannot deauthorize.  I think the original Digital Editions was downloaded on another computer.  I cannot find the activation.dat file to delete it.  I cannot find anything that seems to get my books to read again.

Thank you.

Thank you so much!   I could not deauthorize but your Registry edit did the trick.  Re-authorized and everything working now.  Thanks again.
