I have a master page set up for page numbers but I would like to have page 3 be marked as page 1 because of my cover page. I have to use automatic page numbering for printing purposes and I'm hoping this is possible to change. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using CC.

In the Pages panel, select page 3. From the Pages panel menu, choose Numbering and Section Options. Check Start Section, and set the starting number as shown below:

Page numbers then aren’t automatically changed if pages are moved or added, so this way will not work.

You're not adding a page or moving it, you're renumbering it.

If I'm not understanding what you mean, please attach a screen capture of what your Pages panel looks like now.
