I have passed this onto a senior member of the Dreamweaver team. This
was his immediate response: "We don't use the system-installed version
of Webkit- but an internally maintained build we share with the AIR
team. There shouldn't be a direct correlation between Safari and DW at
any library/DLL level, but I'll definitely have the QE team take a
look at this."

2. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
Mr. Andersson Feb 26, 2009 1:06 PM (in response to Mr. Andersson)Thanks for letting me know.
I've been using the Live VIew the past weeks and really like it. I was working with web sites all day yesterday. This morning I installed Safari 4 beta and Live View died.
What I could do tomorrow is uninstall it and retry with Safari 3. -
3. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
ryanmc@adobe.com Feb 26, 2009 3:19 PM (in response to Mr. Andersson)Thanks for the report. I'm not able to reproduce the crash you're seeing after installing Safari 4. Does this occur with a new blank HTML document? I'd be interested to see if uninstalling and reverting back to Safari 3 resolves the problem. Could you paste the crash log here so I can take a look?
Thank you,

4. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
Mr. Andersson Feb 26, 2009 3:30 PM (in response to Mr. Andersson)I'll see what I can do. Very hectic day tomorrow but I can surely have time to test a blank page, or a page from another site, and reinstall Safari 3.
One thing that came to mind now is the question I get when activating Live View. First it asks if I'd like to set up a testing server - I click No. Then it asks if I'd like to view with the local source instead and I click Yes. -
5. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
Mr. Andersson Feb 27, 2009 6:27 AM (in response to Mr. Andersson)Here is what I found out today.
1. The crash log shows one problem:
Application Specific Information:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** +[WebFontCache fontWithFamily:traits:size:]: unrecognized selector sent to class 0xa0267e40'
Thread 0 Crashed:
0 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x93f6dfb4 ___TERMINATING_DUE_TO_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION___ + 4
1 libobjc.A.dylib ...
2. So I clean out font caches, both Adobe and system and restarted. No change.
3. I search for damaged fonts with Font Doctor - finds nothing.
4. I uninstall Safari 4 - now it works
5. I reinstall Safari 4 - now it crashes
6. I google WebFontCache crash and find other Adobe apps that crash with this error.
I have already removed the Safari plugins and I neve used the Safari Adblock which was found to be the problem in one case.
So... it works fine with Safari 3, and it crashes with Safari 4 -
6. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
ryanmc@adobe.com Feb 27, 2009 3:18 PM (in response to Mr. Andersson)Great, thanks for investigating this further. Do you have anything in your /Library/InputManagers or /Users/username/Library/InputManagers folder? If so, can you try removing those folders and see if that resolves it? If you don't have those paths I'll need to look into what files Safari 4 is changing that is affecting Dreamweaver. Should be zero since we're using our own build of WebKit. -
7. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
mprazoff Feb 27, 2009 11:55 PM (in response to ryanmc@adobe.com)Are you by chance using Growl? It seems to crash other applications that call Webkit, like Mail, once Safari 4 is installed. Please see: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20090227003450677
Hope we can get this sorted out soon.
regards,

8. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
Mr. Andersson Mar 2, 2009 3:51 AM (in response to Mr. Andersson)It's working now but I have no idea why really...
- I had already removed the InputManager folders when I tested last week
- I uninstalled growl and it didn't help
- I removed all internet plugins and it didn't help
- I found an old Shockwave-plugin and updated it
- I updated CS4 apps and I could see that one of those was Air
- I cleaned the caches and restarted... and it works!
Then I reinstalled growl and it's still working. I dont have time do dig into why it is working. Need to get on with work now. Strange thing tho.

A question to Adobe about the built in webkit. Will you update this as soon as Apple updates Safari? It would be great if these versions are synced to avoid problems.

9. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
NastyRetic Mar 5, 2009 10:39 AM (in response to ryanmc@adobe.com)I recently downloaded the Dreamweaver CS4 demo and every time I would try to use LiveView DW would crash.
This was on a Mac running OSX 10.5.6 and Safari 4 Beta. I reverted to Safari 3 by running the uninstaller included with Safari 4 Beta and now Live View works fine. -
10. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
ryanmc@adobe.com Mar 5, 2009 12:51 PM (in response to NastyRetic)The original poster was able to resolve the crash by updating to AIR 1.5.1. Could you go to http://get.adobe.com/air/ and install the latest and see if that resolves the crash with Safari 4 Beta?
Thanks, -
11. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
NastyRetic Mar 6, 2009 7:00 AM (in response to ryanmc@adobe.com)As suggested I have installed the current version of Adobe Air. I also reinstalled Safari 4 Beta. Dreamweaver again crashes when I try to use Live View.

12. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
ryanmc@adobe.com Mar 6, 2009 2:12 PM (in response to NastyRetic)Ok, thanks for trying that.
Do you have anything in your /Library/InputManagers folder? If so you can move that folder to the Desktop and restart. There has been previous reports of Input Managers causing crashes with WebKit/Safari and could be affecting our LiveView. -
13. Re: CS4 Live View not compatible with Safari 4 beta?
ryanmc@adobe.com Mar 6, 2009 2:41 PM (in response to NastyRetic)Also if you could paste in a crash log that would help tremendously.
Thanks! -

According to our testing, Safari 4 will also crash Extension Manager.
Thanks again, Adobe, for making us look bad :-)

David_Powers May 12, 2009 8:17 AM (in response to jefbak)Posting the crash log here is not much use, as it is a user-to-user forum. Submit it directly to Adobe through the bug report form at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.

18. Same Crash message, but with Extension Manager CS4
jean-charles Baudot May 15, 2009 3:22 AM (in response to Mr. Andersson)It's very strange, I have the same crash message with Extension Manager CS4.
