Audio files will not preview in project window with space bar. CC 12.0

Hi folks, I've been dealing with this for a while now. I have multiple folders of stock music which I bring into projects regularly and I use the space bar to preview them before dragging them into a timeline. About 6 months ago I started having a glitch where the space bar no longer would play the audio tracks (works fine on video tracks). Adobe support found a fix for me where I have to go and remove all of my preferences. See attached. Although it does solve the problem it is only temporary.  I'm getting tired of running into this problem regularly (and randomly). Every time I delete my preferences I have to reset all of my keyboard shortcuts which is a pain in  the butt. Help!
