Search Bin & Filter Bin Content -- Greedy results -- possibly because of parentheses?

We've got a large batch of files with the following entries in the Description column...

SEP_15_ (7)_1.mxf

SEP_15_ (8)_1.mxf

SEP_15_ (9)_1.mxf

SEP_15_ (10)_1.mxf

Search Bin or Filter Bin Content searching for a specific string

e.g. "SEP_15_ (9)_1.mxf"

pulls not the specific file but all of them.

In most cases the the search/filter features respect such a specific search and would exclude the non hits.

Why the exception?

Is it the parentheses?  The underscores? The oddly-placed space after the underscore and before the open parenthesis?

Or just a weird fluke?

Sometimes it's greedy because the the search includes fields not visible in the Project/Bin Panel but which have the data.

In this case, that's verifiably not the case.  The data being searched is unique, for all fields, in one project item, yet others are being included in the search.

Second question: Is Team Adobe working toward a more metadata-based workflow?

Adding to Search Bins / Filter Bin Content and metadata -- inconsistent results – Adobe video & audio apps

Request: More robust Search Bin / Filter Bin Content abilities

Looking overall for a more metadata-centric approach to organizing and editing projects.

The current Search Bin / Filter Bin Content functionalities are limited and flawed in a number of ways

  - Filter Bin Content

  - Limited to one search term

  - Frequently kicks focus out of input field midway through typing such that your keystrokes stop being letters and risk executing editing commands.

  - Is slow for big projects

  - Shows empty bins, cluttering the UI when displaying results

- Search Bins

  - Are limited to two search terms and one operator (and/or)

  - Both

  - Offer no ability to use wild cards

  - Make mistakes under certain TBD circumstances -- for instance including items that don't match, excluding items that do.

  - Are frequently blind to fields other than name for Sequences / MultiCam Sequences.

Requests:

  - Unlimited number of search terms, with sophisticated options for and/or and parenthetical.

  - Ability to target specific fields, not the limited number of fields currently represented in Search Bins, while maintaining the ability to search all fields. (Mac OS Finder in some ways offers a model that might work, where the default is a global catch-all search but which accommodates, easter-egg style, an unlimited number of sub-filters for those who want it.)

  - Don't show empty bins in Filter Content.  Consider no hierarchy visible in the search results UI and, again, perhaps again considering the Mac OS model which shows a flat list of results, but whose items can be made to reveal the hierarchy easily on request.

  - Consider an option for a regex style search option -- sophisticated, techy, even if hidden, for users who want it.
