It should be saving the workspace. Either your prefs are corrupt or they are not being saved properly on quit. See Replace Your Preferences for direction to reset the prefs, then open the correct workspace and close ID. Does it retain the workspace?
It did not.
Then something is preventing the prefs from being written correctly. Run any third-party plugins? How about Mac utilities in the background?
Only Suitcase which I've always had with previous versions. Just started with CC 2014 and nothing else has changed. InDesign has been buggy ever since going subscription, crashing on quitting or saving, but this is really annoying.
Suitcase is a constant source of trouble. Turn off or remove the auto-activation plugin and try again. There's probably also an update to Suitcase you can install.
Yeahhh, nope. Turned off Suitcase and the auto-plugin, quit, restarted, rebooted the whole computer...same results: Workspace=Essentials. Augh. Now if I set it on Advanced, it stays on Advanced. It just won't stay on a saved workspace. Maybe in the NEXT update.
Go to the Workspaces folder iin your user profile or user library and rename all the "current" workspace.xml files, and try creating a brand new custom workspace.
And you may need to actually remove the suitcase plugin, not just deactivate.
You mean rename the presets?
I have deleted my saved workspace and created a new one to no avail.
When you deactivate the plugin it no longer shows up in the plugin folder so there is nothing to remove.
OH OH I got it to work!! I STARTED from the Advanced workspace and then customized it then saved it, quit, opened it and the new workspace was there. So something funky is going on with the Essential workspace but now all is well. Next I try turning Suitcase back on. And...YES! it still works! YAY!
Thank you for your help.
For Indesign CC 2018,
1. Quit Indesign.
2. I searched for Start.xml. in the finder
3. Found it in: Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe InDesign CC 2018:Presets:InDesign_Workspaces:en_US
4. Zipped Start.xml for safe keeping.
5. Deleted Start.xml
6. Copied my New Workspace in [Macintosh HD:Users:User:Library:Preferences:Adobe InDesign:Version 13.0:en_US:Workspaces] to that folder.
7. Renamed my New Workspace to Start.xml.
8. Restarted Indesign. Works!
