I can't save my project, it freezes and just uses almost all my ram, why?

So that is my task manager after I press (ctrl + s). Is it doing anything or just wasting RAM? If it isn't doing something, how do I force it to?
Also the program is 100% unresponsive.Are there any known solutions to this?

Okay, the RAM use is down to 500mb but it's still unresponsive.
